How To Open Breath of the Wild’s Impossible Chest

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has stunning scenery, an intriguing story, and challenging, if not occasionally frustrating, puzzles to solve. Some, like the Eighth Heroine statue mystery, require players to follow vague clues or find hints to complete the quests. Other enigmatic aspects of the game are simply the result of glitches that take some serious finessing to work around.

Treasure hunting is a big part of Breath of the Wild. Players can find various types of chests in shrines, at enemy camps, or inside the Divine Beasts. Some chests are sitting in the overworld ready to be opened up or can be plucked from the ground with the Magnesis Rune. The Legend of Zelda series is known for having a lot of treasure to uncover, some that help players reach the end of the game and some that are easily missable.

There are hundreds of treasure chests in Breath of the Wild with rewards ranging from weapons and unique armor pieces to common resources. Recently, a method has been uncovered for retrieving and opening the game’s most challenging treasure chest (often referred to as the impossible chest). Unfortunately, the prize for opening the chest is only an amber stone, which is a common resource available in many areas of the game, but the real reward is performing the impressive feat required to access the impossible chest.

Retrieving the Impossible Chest in Breath of the Wild

Opening the chest in Breath of the Wild will require using glitches and quickly cycling through the various Sheikah Slate Runes. Players should also stock up on arrows and foods that restore stamina and increase speed before attempting to gain access to this treasure chest. The impossible chest is located beneath the surface of Aris Beach. First, ollie clip beneath the beach and swim to the air pocket between two large rocks. Place the Travel Medallion, part of The Master Trials DLC, down on the rock and leave to activate the moon jump glitch.

Next, players will have to travel back to the medallion and fall to place a Cryonis block at the bottom of the air pocket. Fall off the block, grab the side, then start shield surfing to pass through the water below. This will take some patience, but players should keep falling until they hear a gust of wind, then moon jump to the surface until a fast swim is activated. Go south to trigger the walking mechanic, and then jump back into the water area heading towards the chest’s spawn point. Activate a Cryonis block close to the chest’s spawn to force the camera down (this keeps the chest from disappearing). Just after the Sheikah Slate Sensor+ detects the chest, sprint at it eating stamina food once (just after passing through the trees) and placing another Cryonis block after running out of stamina.

Players must then grab the treasure chest with Magnesis and move in the direction of the Travel Medallion. Link will drown and spawn back at the medallion. Jump into the air pocket and create the Cryonis platform again. Use Stasis to freeze the chest in place, then throw a round bomb towards the chest and shoot it with 3 arrows. Unfreeze the chest, then view a memory to regain the Stasis ability. Freeze the chest again when it is close to the bomb and activate Revali’s Gale. Shoot the chest 30 times, eating stamina food regularly to keep from falling out of the air. Players should then trigger the bomb explosion to push the chest towards them, and catch it with Magensis. Finally, place the chest down on the Cryonis platform and open it to collect the amber inside.
