How to Use Crossplay in Borderlands 3

Crossplay allows Borderlands 3 players to play together regardless of which version the player owns. This guide will show players how they can set this up. The Borderlands series is one that is known for its full cooperative multiplayer action. At any point, players can invite their friends to join them across the wastelands. Each character comes along with their own set of special abilities that require players to use to benefit one another. As the walls between consoles begin to fall as many new games are adopting crossplay, Borderlands 3 is the newest to join the line. This guide will show players how they can enable crossplay to play with their friends.

It’s important to mention that players are only able to participate in crossplay if they have the Xbox or PC version of the game. PlayStation is not a part of the consoles that are permitted for crossplay. Sony has always been the one to be extremely protective of which properties they allow to have crossplay enabled. Although, players can play via cross-generational play for those who own an Xbox Series X who wish to play with their friends who own an Xbox One. Here’s how players can set up crossplay in Borderlands 3.

How To Set Up Crossplay in Borderlands 3

The update officially dropped on June 24th and allows players on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X, Mac, PC, and Stadia to all come together in a single lobby. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set this up.

  • Step 1: When logging in, players will be greeted with a Crossplay Update.
  • Step 2: Players will then need to create a Crossplay Display name not already used in Borderlands 3.
  • Step 3: Head over to the main menu and select Social. Here, players will now be able to invite their friends to join a lobby.

Players can now work together to explore the wastelands, no matter the platform (sorry PlayStation owners). It’s no surprise that PlayStation is the only one to stay out of the crossplay promotion. This entire debacle kicked off when Fortnite fans were unable to play with friends on other platforms. Even historically strict platforms like Nintendo allowed for crossplay to be enabled for titles like Minecraft and Fortnite. Depending on how 2K wishes to handle this, a possible Sony update can release in the future to allow everyone to play. More players in a single game are beneficial for everyone involved.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Google Stadia.
