Throughout the years, Jared Harris has become one of the great character actors who is always appearing in exciting and acclaimed new projects. The son of legendary actor Richard Harris has paved his own path in Hollywood from great television shows like Mad Men to working with filmmakers like Steven Spielberg.

10 Lincoln (2012) – 7.3

Steven Spielberg took on one of the most interesting historical figures of all time in his movie Lincoln. Interestingly, instead of simply being a movie about the life of Abraham Lincoln, Spielberg’s movie takes a look at the president’s efforts to end slavery in the United States of America.

8 Dead Man (1995) – 7.6

Indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch stepped into the Western genre with the odd and compelling Dead Man. Johnny Depp stars as a timid accountant in a frontier land who is on the run after killing a man.

The strange journey follows Depp’s protagonist as he encounters various colorful characters along the way. Harris has one of these supporting roles as a fur trader while the likes of John Hurt, Alfred Molina, and Billy Bob Thorton also appear.

7 The Last Of The Mohicans (1992) – 7.7

Lincoln was not the first time Harris appeared alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in a historical epic. Michal Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans stars Day-Lewis as Hawkeye, an adopted member of a native tribe who joins his father and brother in protecting the daughters of a British colonel.

Harris has a small role as a British officer in this stunning and engrossing adventure. It features another excellent performance from Day-Lewis as well as a different type of movie from Mann as a director.

6 The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008) – 7.8

Brad Pitt reunited with his frequent collaborator, David Fincher, for the epic romance story of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Pitt plays the titular character, a man who starts his life as an old man and ages backward while meeting the love of his life (Cate Blanchette) along the way.

Harris is part of the terrific supporting cast that includes the likes of Tilda Swinton and Mahershala Ali. He plays a boat captain who hires Benjamin onto his crew and shows him new parts of the world.

5 The Terror (2018) – 7.9

One of the most interesting television projects Harris has been a part of is the horror anthology series The Terror. The first season of the show was based on a true story of the lost expedition of Captain Sir John Franklin.

Harris plays Captain Francis Crozier, one of the captains of the expedition who becomes the leader of the crew when various horrors befall them as they are stranded in the Arctic. Harris is joined by Tobias Menzies and Ciarán Hinds in this dark and complex supernatural story.

4 The Expanse (2015– ) – 8.5

Before stepping into the ambitious sci-fi series, Foundation, Harris was part of another acclaimed genre show. The Expanse is set in the 24th century in which the solar system has been colonized as a simple mystery becomes a vast and dangerous conspiracy.

Harris was part of the show’s first season as Anderson Dawes. The show has developed a passionate cult following over the years as it now prepares to launch its sixth and final season.

3 Mad Men (2007–2015) – 8.6

Harris joined Mad Men in season 3 of the show as Lane Pryce. Despite being a late addition, Lane quickly became one of the best characters and has perhaps the most powerful arc in the series.

Harris fit in quite well with the cast including Jon Hamm as Don Draper and Elizabeth Moss as Peggy Olson. Though Lane’s run on the show ended in the fifth season, he cemented his legacy among fans thanks to some truly memorable moments, especially his fistfight with Pete Campbell.

Harris gave one of his greatest performances in the hugely acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl. The show explores the 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant which became one of the worst man-made disasters in history.

Harris has a heroic role as Valery Legasov who deals with the aftermath of the explosion, attempting to ensure the damage is limited as much as possible as well as ensuring it never happens again. The series is a harrowing, powerful, and thought-provoking piece of must-watch television.
