John Cena Reveals How Long His WWE Return Will Last

Superstar John Cena has returned to the ring, and now he is dropping hints as to how long he plans to continue his stint in the WWE. Cena made his first appearance for the wrestling organization back in 2002. He is obviously no stranger to the ring, but he has taken several prolonged leaves of absence from the sport in recent years, leaving spectators to question how much they can expect of the wrestling icon in the near future.

Cena’s long-running presence in the WWE established his future in the entertainment industry. He rapidly became one of the largest names in the sport and had major film contracts offered within his first five years in the ring. Cena soon found himself on the big screen, starring in the action flick, The Marine.  The actor continued to battle his way to become the world champion in the ring, but his interest increasingly transitioned to the cinema. Numerous movie titles, ranging from voiceovers to live-action acting, are now accredited to Cena’s name leading to the actor’s departure from a majority of WWE events.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Cena elaborated on his return to WWE and how long he intends to stay. While he didn’t give any definitive answers about his future in the WWE, he does give fans hope that he’s not finished. Read what Cena said below:

“Man, never say never about the WWE. Like I said, I had a month to myself and here I am back in a ring. So maybe if I get another month to catch my breath, I’ll hopefully make another visit back. I’m going to have to defend that championship that I win from Roman somehow (winks)!”

The wrestling icon has only appeared in a handful of matches since 2019. So, understandably, audiences were ecstatic when Cena appeared at the Money in the Bank event in July after a prolonged hiatus. His reemergence for the pay-per-view event established another upcoming appearance for another match as well. The championship reference Cena makes is in regards to his scheduled match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam on August 21. This appearance will be one of his largest matches in recent years. The contest is already being promoted as the main event for the night. Reins has achieved the status of WWE Champion on three different occasions and WWE’s Universal Champion twice. The number is impressive but minimal in comparison to Cena’s sixteen championship victories.

The title match is sure to be thrilling, but audiences shouldn’t get too excited about the possibility of a long-term return for Cena. While he is loyal to his roots and does still have a yearning to get back into the ring, he is also between movie projects. His most recent project, The Suicide Squad, will hit theaters this month. Cena has said in the past that the reason he does not wrestle more frequently is due to his restrictions and schedules while filming movies. It doesn’t seem likely that Cena will give up his Hollywood career anytime soon, but a win against Reigns would solidify another WWE appearance by Cena, so hopefully there is a bit of truth in his declaration of victory.
