Karen Gillan Shares Sneaky BTS Peek At GOTG 3 Nebula Makeup

Karen Gillan gives fans a peek behind the curtain at her Nebula makeup for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Currently set for release in May 2023, Vol. 3 will conclude the quirky MCU trilogy James Gunn began in 2014 with Guardians of the Galaxy. Though Gunn was briefly let go from the project, staunch support from his cast and the fans led Marvel to reinstate him as the creative mastermind behind the film. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the returns of nearly everyone in the core group, which is comprised of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Gillan.

So far, plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are being kept tightly under wraps. However, it has been confirmed that this will be the most emotional installment yet, and that it will contain a major death. There will be some new additions to the cast as well, with Will Poulter joining the MCU as Adam Warlock and Peacemaker breakout Chukwudi Iwuji playing a mystery character. Filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently under way, and fans have been treated to a few interesting behind the scenes peeks.

The latest comes from Gillan, who returns to play taciturn cyborg Nebula. The former Doctor Who star shared a few glimpses of her makeup process for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on her Instagram stories in honor of her team going through their 100th application. The last picture Gillan shared features a slightly obscured, but still clear peek at her face in full Nebula form. And based on the apparent scratches there, it looks like Nebula has been in a fight recently. Check out Gillan’s post below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be the next time Gillan will play Nebula in the MCU. She, along with most of the GOTG cast, will be seen in this summer’s Thor: Love and Thunder. They will also appear in a Disney+ holiday special, which is expected to debut later this year. Because of those additional projects slated before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s even harder than normal to predict what Nebula’s story might be. However, Howard the Duck voice actor Seth Green did call the film Gamora (Saldaña) and Nebula’s story, so it could be that Gillan’s blue-skinned anti-hero will be facing her most emotional arc yet.

Though Gillan’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 makeup is relatively close to her previous appearances, it’s still exciting to see her suiting up as Nebula. Gunn has declared this movie to be the end of the line for the current team, meaning it could be the last time audiences will see Gillan play Nebula. Now, when it comes to the MCU, there are always opportunities for surprise returns down the line, and there could be more ahead for select members of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast. Fans will just have to wait and see what Gunn and Marvel have in store for everyone.
