Legends: Arceus – Every Alpha Pokémon In Obsidian Fieldlands

Obsidian Fieldlands is the first major area players explore in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but even it has plenty of Alpha Pokémon to battle and catch. Alphas tend to be the strongest Pokémon in any given area, making them especially dangerous in Obsidian Fieldlands, where players may not have a very strong team yet. Below is every Alpha Pokémon that can be caught in Obsidian Fieldlands, with a dedicated section for some of those that are more sought after.

Alpha Pokémon are essentially optional mini-bosses in Legends: Arceus. This latest game turned out to be a better Pokémon safari than New Pokémon Snap, but there isn’t a vehicle like the NEO-ONE to protect players from Pokémon in Legends: Arceus. Alpha Pokémon are especially dangerous, not only to a whole team of Pokémon, but their trainer too. Only a few Alphas in Obsidian Fieldlands will be catchable in the early game, meaning players will have to return at some point later in the story if they want to catch all of them. Players will also need to make sure they’ve got good enough Poké Balls to catch the high level creatures. Heavy Balls can be effective if an Alpha is snuck up on, but players will want to have plenty of Great and Ultra Balls on hand as well.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

There are many catchable Pokémon in Legends: Arceus’ Obsidian Fieldlands, and among them are 19 Alphas. All of them are much larger than the average specimen from their respective Pokémon species, and have bright red eyes from the wild might that has consumed them. This makes them easy to spot, but many Alpha Pokémon aren’t easily approached. A few of the more notable Alphas in Obsidian Fieldlands have a dedicated section below, and a complete list with levels and locations of each can be found near the bottom of this page.

Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon – Alakazam

Alpha Alakazam will appear in Sandgem Flats, the region in Obsidian Fieldlands’ southwest corner. Players will need the help of a Ride Pokémon in order to access the region. Basculegion, Sneasler, or Braviary will be able to help, since Sandgem Flats is surrounded by steep hills and water. Alpha Alakazam will be level 60, making it a difficult catch, but it may be less of a hassle than evolving an Abra, then getting and using a Legends: Arceus Linking Cord to evolve Kadabra with.

Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon – Gyarados

Normal Gyarados can be found in Obsidian Fields as well, but players will need to travel to Lake Verity in order to capture the Alpha version. Just like Alakazam, players will need the help of ride Pokémon to reach the lake, which is surrounded by steep hills on the west side of Obsidian Fieldlands. Additionally, Basculegion specifically is needed to reach Alpha Gyarados, since it will be on the west side of Lake Verity in the middle of the water. This Alpha Gyarados is level 60, but there is also another, slightly weaker, level 58 Alpha Gyarados in Cobalt Coastlands. The latter is not guaranteed to spawn like the one in Lake Verity, though.

Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon – Infernape

Many players may already be in possession of an Infernape since finding and catching Chimchar in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is made simple by being the objective of an early game Request. Comparatively, getting Alpha Infernape will require players to make some moderate progression through the story, since it is only found on Ramanas Island.

The island is only accessible once players are able to ride Basculegion, and by that time, this level 65 Alpha Infernape may be conquerable. Any player who has progressed far enough to unlock Braviary as a Ride Pokémon will also be able to access the Ramanas Island quite easily.

Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon – Scyther

Alpha Scyther will be level 42, and is found in Grandtree Arena near Obsidian Fieldlands’ southeast corner. This is the location of Legends: Arceus‘ first Noble Pokémon fight against Kleavor, so it’s possible players encounter Scyther’s new Hisuian evolution before a Scyther itself. If players manage to catch Alpha Scyther and are able to get their hands on Black Augurite, a very intimidating Alpha Kleavor can join their party.

Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon – Snorlax

Snorlax may be one of the first Alpha Pokémon players encounter, since it can be found on the southern end of Aspiration Hill, one of the first areas open to exploration. Unfortunately, catching Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ Alpha Snorlax will likely have to wait for a later time, since the level 42 creature can easily dispatch an early game team. Snorlax is already a huge Pokémon, but the Alpha version is even more daunting.

Every Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokémon

All 19 Alpha Pokémon that can be found in the Obsidian Fieldlands are listed below, followed by their level and general location.

  • Alakazam (level 60) – located in the Sandgem Flats near the southwestern corner of Obsidian Fieldlands.
  • Bibarel (level 16) – on the south side of Tidewater Dam, the land bridge players take to reach The Heartwood and Grandtree Arena.
  • Blissey (level 62) – near the eastern edge of the Obsidian Fieldlands map, north of Obsidian Falls.
  • Floatzel (level 31) – south of Horseshoe Plains, on the other side of the river.
  • Golbat (level 40) – near the eastern edge of the Obsidian Fieldlands map, near Oreburrow Tunnel.
  • Graveler (level 30) – directly east of Worn Bridge, near the eastern edge of the Obsidian Fieldlands map.
  • Gyarados (level 60) – found in Lake Verity.
  • Heracross (level 45) – located in the Grueling Grove, in the Obsidian Fieldlands’ northeast corner.
  • Infernape (level 65) – found on Ramanas Island, requiring the player to use Basculegion or Braviary, two of Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ Ride Pokémon.
  • Kricketune (level 30) – in Deertrack Heights, very close to the Heights Camp.
  • Lopunny (level 40) – in the southwestern corner of The Heartwood, near the southern edge of the Obsidian Fieldlands map.
  • Luxio (level 40) – almost directly west of the Fieldlands Camp, near Floaro Gardens.
  • Magikarp (level 60) – found in the river near Oreburrow Tunnel, south of Obsidian Falls.
  • Parasect (level 30) – directly east of the Heights Camp.
  • Rapidash (level 40) – on the northern edge of Horseshoe Plains.
  • Scyther (level 42) – located in Grandtree Arena.
  • Snorlax (level 45) – south of the Fieldlands camp between Aspiration Hill and Sandgem Flats, outside of the hills surrounding Lake Verity.
  • Stantler (level 42) – in Deertrack Heights, northeast of the Heights Camp.
  • Staravia (level 32) – in Windswept Run, west of the Heights Camp.

It’s very likely that the level 16 Bibarel is the first Alpha players catch, since it’s directly in the main quest’s path, and a relatively low level in comparison to the others. Infernape will likely be the most difficult to catch, since it’s not only level 65, but also a very powerful Fire/Fighting-type. With Pokémon Legends: Arceus part of the core series, Alpha Pokémon are hopefully here to stay, since they introduce some exciting variety even in the first area, Obsidian Fieldlands.
