Marvel Zombies TV Show Announced For Disney+ With Throwback Logo

Marvel Studios officially announces a Marvel Zombies animated Disney+ show. Thanks to the outlet of Disney’s streaming service, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded in a massive way during Phase 4. Marvel Studios is still making plenty of movies like Black Widow and Eternals, but Disney+ offered the MCU a chance to explore long-form storytelling with TV. This included putting supporting characters like Scarlet Witch and Sam Wilson at the forefront of their own stories. But, Marvel also used Disney+ as an opportunity to make some animated content for the first time.

Marvel’s What If…? launched in the summer of 2021, and the animated series explored the possibilities of the multiverse. It gave fans plenty of fun episodes to enjoy, such as Peggy Carter becoming Captain Carter and T’Challa becoming Star-Lord. One of them that was most anticipated for longtime Marvel fans was the show’s take on Marvel Zombies, a comic event where Marvel superheroes became zombies. Following the release of Marvel’s What If…?‘s zombie-based episode, fans have become increasingly interested in more Marvel Zombies content, as well as more MCU animated content in general.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

As part of Disney+ Day, Marvel Studios officially announced plans for a Marvel Zombies animated Disney+ show. Details on the series are scarce at the moment, but Marvel did share the first look at the show’s throwback comic logo. The logo is a direct match for Robert Kirkman’s 2005 Marvel Zombies miniseries. The show is directed by Executive Producer Bryan Andrews and written by Executive Producer Zeb Wells, who both worked on Marvel’s What If…?

With so few details currently available about Marvel Zombies, it is not yet confirmed if the show is an expansion on Marvel’s What If…?‘s zombie universe or something new entirely. It would make sense for Marvel Studios to directly continue the storyline from Marvel’s What If…? if that is the path Marvel Zombies takes. However, the show’s logo aligning with Kirkman’s original comic could indicate it is a more faithful adaptation of that storyline. Fans won’t know for sure what direction Marvel Zombies takes until the studio provides more information on the newly announced Disney+ series.

Given the option of Marvel Zombies continuing Marvel’s What If…? story or adapting Kirkman’s comic, most MCU fans would likely prefer the former. What If‘s zombie episode ended on a massive tease of zombie Thanos being in Wakanda with several Infinity Stones while the MCU’s remaining heroes – Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and Black Panther – head that way. Marvel Zombies can show what happens next and allow Marvel Studios to build on this cliffhanger and bring some of the MCU’s cosmic heroes into the fold to try and reverse this apocalypse.
