MCU’s Next Kang Variant Could Appear In Moon Knight Not Ant-Man 3

Ahead of Kang the Conqueror’s debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the upcoming Moon Knight Disney+ show can feature Jonathan Majors’ next multiversal variant, Rama-Tut. Introduced in Loki, He Who Remains put the dangers of the MCU multiverse in perspective with his explanation of alternate realities. According to him, he worked alongside his own variants to control the multiverse and give order to the Sacred Timeline. But now that the Sacred Timeline has crumbled with the death of He Who Remains, it’s only a matter of time before his more villainous counterparts start unleashing chaos.

The most dangerous variant coming to the MCU in the near future is Kang the Conqueror, a tyrant with a knack for time travel. Aside from Kang’s proper introduction in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, his well-intentioned variant Iron Lad is expected to join other established members of the Young Avengers such as Kate Bishop, Elijah Bradley, and Billy and Tommy Maximoff. This leaves Kang’s other famous variant, Rama-Tut, to be featured in a future Phase 4 title.

There’s no better place to introduce Rama-Tut than in Moon Knight. In the comics, Nathaniel Richards travels to ancient Egypt and takes over the land, naming himself “Rama-Tut”. This sparks the wrath of Khonshu, god of the moon and future master of Marc Spector, who’s more famously known as Moon Knight. The story gets complicated when the Fantastic Four and the West Coast Avengers arrive from the present day, but the MCU only needs to present Rama-Tut’s conflict with Khonshu to tease the influence of Kang the Conqueror’s Pharaoh variant.

The collapse of the TVA and the Sacred Timeline in Loki may allow Kang and his variants to travel across time without getting pruned. It’s also possible that the chaos that the multiverse brings to the MCU will keep the timeline from creating new branches, allowing Kang to stay in specific points of the MCU’s main timeline for as long as he wants. If this is accurate, Rama-Tut’s visit to ancient Egypt could inform Khonshu’s goals in the MCU, thus inspiring his champions to fight any version of Kang they encounter.

With Khonshu and Rama-Tut’s enmity already established, Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector would have a good reason to go after Kang the Conqueror once he shows up in the present day. Moon Knight’s desire to defeat Khonshu’s enemy once and for all would also be a good justification for him to join Ant-Man, Wasp, Loki, and other Avengers who may also want to stop the villain. If Kang is known for something besides time travel in the source material, it’s his obsession with angering every character he meets, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, and himself.

More recently in Marvel Comics, the Kang the Conqueror limited series revealed that a previous acolyte of Khonshu helped a young Kang the Conqueror, back when he was just Nathaniel Richards, when the latter arrived in ancient Egypt. As fate would have it, this ancient Moon Knight turns out to be a past version of one of Kang the Conqueror’s closest allies, Ravonna Renslayer. With these precedents in the comics, the MCU can easily connect Moon Knightwith a multiversal variant of the villain who may become the MCU’s next Thanos.
