Minecraft Dungeons Reveals Seasonal Adventures & New Progression System

New Minecraft Dungeons content, such as seasonal events and a new progression system, were revealed during the recent Minecraft Live digital event. The dungeon-crawling action game, which launched in 2020, serves as a spin-off of the original survival sandbox Minecraft game. Since release Minecraft Dungeons has received ongoing support, such as the extensive Echoing Void downloadable content.

The game’s downloadable content also includes free updates to the game, meaning those who did not purchase the DLC can experience bits of new content. Echoing Void introduced three new levels, taking place within the titular disturbing void, as well as new enchantments and new items. The missions, only available to those who purchased the pack, feature brand-new mechanics and enemies like the Enderlings. Those who do not purchase the DLC will still receive the new items and enchantments, as well as a maze-like new mission to overcome. Meanwhile, a seasonal Minecraft Dungeons Halloween event is currently going on which allows players to complete creepy themed missions and obtain spooky new pieces of loot.

Revealed during Minecraft Live 2021, new content coming to Minecraft Dungeons will serve to further expand the dungeon crawling title. Now that the game’s DLC storyline is finished, new seasonal adventures will allow players to earn progress and collect various rewards. While new seasonal adventures will be added periodically older ones will not disappear, meaning that players can always return to past content to earn more rewards. Like with previous downloadable content, every release will include one free track and one paid track, ensuring that all players can experience some new content.

Adventure points are a new progression system being added to Minecraft Dungeons alongside seasonal adventures and The Tower. Most in-game actions, such as beating a daily trial or weekly challenge, will earn players adventure points. These adventure points can then be spent on unique rewards such as pets, character flairs, emotes, skins, and capes. Another free single-player feature, The Tower, will allow players to progress through 30 floors of increasing difficulty to earn an abundance of gear and adventure points. The Tower’s layout is randomly generated but remains consistent for two weeks, allowing players to learn its layout before it changes. These additions are expected to arrive in-game by December 2021.

Minecraft Live 2021 revealed a ton of new features coming to Minecraft Dungeons, but the original survival sandbox title will also be receiving new content as well. Minecraft‘s upcoming Wild Update will add unique new biomes for players to explore, including lush mangrove swamps and creepy Deep Dark cities. Mangrove swamps will feature shallow water, new frog mobs and large mangrove trees, making navigation difficult for unprepared players. Meanwhile, the Deep Dark will be a mysterious underground biome that features ancient ruins containing unique loot.

Minecraft Dungeons was only released last year, but the blocky action title has already received a large amount of post-launch content. This downloadable content has kept the experience fresh for players by adding new quests to complete and loot to earn. Seasonal adventures will continue expanding Minecraft Dungeons even further, with content for both paying customers and casual players. The Tower will add even more content for players to explore into the future, with adventure points adding ongoing progression to the Minecraft dungeon crawler.

Minecraft Dungeons is available on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
