The Muppet Christmas Carol is receiving a beautiful new vinyl release, just in time for Christmas. Perhaps the most famous retelling of the Charles Dickens novella, the festive classic stars film veteran Michael Caine as selfish protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve, determined to change the miser’s ways. While packed to the rafters with the typical Muppets absurdist comedy that made Jim Henson’s puppets famous, the film’s soundtrack is perhaps the most celebrated aspect of the movie.
Now, with the festive period looming, a new release of The Muppet Christmas Carol on stunning colored vinyl is being released by iam8bit. The fully remastered soundtrack will include 17 tracks from the movie, including “Marley & Marley,” “Scrooge,” and the now-infamous “When Love Is Gone.” The vinyl, available in three different variations, including an iam8bit exclusive blue and a sumptuous red record, are all enclosed in a gorgeous illustrated jacket that’s positively dripping in Muppets magic, drawn by artist Kevin Wilson. With Paul Williams’ and Miles Goodman’s soundtrack arguably the most recognizable of the Muppets long-running history of musical endeavors, the vinyl is the perfect way to honor the pair’s songwriting prestige. With the movie turning thirty next year, Henson’s creations are, thankfully, still getting the attention they deserve. Most recently, the Disney+ special, Muppets Haunted Mansion proved there’s still life in Kermit and co. after a successful reception from both fans and critics. While the new special helps drum up support for more Muppets content in the future, for now, fans can at least reminisce over a classic by picking up the vinyl release of The Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack when it releases on Black Friday.
