My Hero Academia: 10 Quirks That Perfectly Match The Characters

It is established in the My Hero Academia universe that the established culture of quirks is a genetic, biological step in evolution, quirks usually being inherited through parents and passed down onto their children.

However, there are some fan theories floating around that suggest that it is likely deeper than this and whether intended by the writers or not, some quirks perfectly match the personality of the characters. While some examples of this potential phenomenon are quite obvious, others are much more subtle.

Present Mic

One of the most obvious examples is the case of Pro-Hero, UA teacher and part-time Radio Host Present Mic. The voice hero is known for his eccentric and extraverted personality. Consistently maintaining a high level of excitement and energy, especially while talking. To describe this character in one word, he’s loud.

Mic’s quirk, Voice, gives him the ability to control the volume of his voice, projecting it to a sonic scream. For obvious reasons, Mic’s quirk and persona perfectly align, both exuberant and definitely loud.

Eijiro Kirishima

Boisterous and outgoing, this enthusiastic Class 1-A hero in training is one of the more subtle examples, however, there are still major parallels between his quirk and personality. His quirk, Hardening, gives Kirishima the power to sharpen and harden his body. One of the major aspects of this quirk is his enhanced durability.

Determined and selfless, Kirishima has a very resilient personality, often one of the first to stay positive and keep pushing past difficult situations, much like the durability that his quirk offers.

Ochaco Uraraka

While Uraraka does have a hidden fierce and determined side to her personality, it is her usual positive persona that perfectly matches her quirk. Her quirk in question, Zero Gravity, allows her to cause objects she touches to become weightless, nullifying the effects of gravity that previously weighed the object down.

Typically, Uraraka has a very kind-hearted and upbeat personality that often lifts the mood of her friends and classmates. She also sometimes comes across as a bit airheaded and for these reasons, her uplighting airheaded personality perfectively matches her anti-gravity quirk.

Fumikage Tokoyami

Another match that is more subtle belongs to this member of Class 1-A. Tokoyami is one of the more brooding and mysterious members of the hero course. With the outward appearance of a blackbird, Tokoyami displays comfort and an interest in all things dark and serious, sometimes earning him a creepy reputation, despite that being far from the truth.

This reputation is reflected in his quirk, Dark Shadow. Despite being useful and often friendly, the sentient shadow monster that manifests from Tokoyami’s body can come across as scary to some. For this reason, Tokoyami’s own intimidating presence is reflected in his intimidating quirk.

Ms Joke

This Pro-Hero, who is also a teacher of Class 2 at rival hero school Ketsubutsu Academy High School, may have only appeared briefly in the show but her small appearance was still memorable due to this teacher’s eccentricity.

Ms Joke has an overly cheerful and outgoing personality, showing her goofy personality at every second and shamelessly attempting to flirt with Class-1A’s homeroom teacher, Eraserhead. Ms Joke’s quirk, outburst, perfectly matches her personality as her quirk forces her targets into fits of uncontrollable laughter, much like the character herself.

Endeavor

The current Number 1 Pro-Hero certainly lives up to his name and quirk. Dubbed as the Flame Hero, Endeavour’s quirk Hellflame isn’t one to be messed with. Much like the hero himself. This quirk gives him the ability to produce and control a large amount of intense fire.

The fiery nature of his personality matches well with his quirk, often coming across as imposing and aggressive. His outgoing confidence also matches the flashiness of this powerful fire quirk, further pairing perfectively with his fiery hot bad temper.

Tenya Ida

Once again another more subtle comparison but one that fits well nonetheless. Class 1-A’s homeroom president, Ida has a fast-moving quirk called Engine. This useful quirk gives this hero in training car-like engines in his legs that give him incredible running speed, much like a car.

This reliable classmate is often one of the first to act in a situation due to his responsible behaviour and quirk initiative. Despite usually maintaining a stoic expression, Ida is often hyperactive, talking fast and moving his arms around in quick chopping motions. For this reason, due to both his quick intellect and hyperactive movements, Ida matches his quirk well.

Katsuki Bakugo

One of the most obvious examples of quirks that perfectly match a character’s personality is none other than main character Deku’s rival, Bakugo. Bakugo throughout the anime comes across as extremely aggressive and arrogant, with an explosive temper to match.

His quirk, Explosion, gives him the ability to ignite the sweat from his hands, producing strong explosions. Everything about his quirk is as aggressive and well, explosive, as Bakugo himself.

Minoru Mineta

The most disliked character from Class 1-A and from the anime as a whole, this character’s personality is more similar to his quirk than you may first think. Mineta’s quirk, Pop off, allows him to produce ball-shaped objects that can stick to surfaces.

Overall, Mineta’s quirk is one of the less effective out of the heroes in training and his quirk is shown on multiple occasions to be more of a nuisance to villains than anything particularly useful. For this reason, his not very useful, annoying and clingy quirk matches well with this character’s personality.

Shoto Todoroki

The two halves of this powerful character’s quirk, match perfectly with the evolution of his personality. Todoroki’s quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot, gives him the power to control and generate fire from one half of his body, and ice from the other half.

When audiences are first introduced to Todoroki, he is cold and closed off, favouring to use only his ice powers due to his resentment towards his father, Endeavor. As the anime progresses, however, Todoroki begins using his fire side and at the same time, reveals other aspects of his personality, such as his fiery passion, anger and determination.
