Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed TV Show Given Update By Ubisoft

Two years after it was first announced Ubisoft has offered an updated on the Assassin’s Creed live-action television show at Netflix. One of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, the series portrays a fictional struggle between the Order of the Assassins, who fight to preserve free will, and the Knights Templar, intent on achieving control, with new stories and time periods presented in each installment. The streaming service’s live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed was announced back in October 2020, along with multiple animated series meant to contribute to an extended universe. The show will be executive produced by Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik at Ubisoft’s Film and Television department.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to GameSpot, the series was discussed at Ubisoft Forward today, where it was revealed to be “still early in development.” Jeb Stuart, who recently worked with Netflix to create Vikings: Valhalla, will serve as showrunner and Marc-Alexis Côté, creative director of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, said “It’s gonna be an epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation of our video game series.“

This will not be the first attempt to create a live-action version of Assassin’s Creed, with a feature film starring Michael Fassbender having been released in 2016 to poor reviews and box-office numbers. However, Netflix has had luck with small-screen adaptations, including the growing Castlevania series and the upcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and BioShock film. With so much story to explore, Assassin’s Creed may be a perfect fit for television and fans will likely be awaiting any further details surrounding the project.
