Neverwinter: Jewel of the North Update Adds D&D Bard Class

A cinematic trailer for the new Neverwinter expansion, Jewel of the North, gives players a closer look at the game’s new Bard class. The massively-multiplayer online role-playing game, based on the world of Dungeons & Dragons, has been consistently supported since its launch in 2013. Developer Cryptic Studios previously announced that the game’s newest playable class would be a classic Dungeons & Dragons Bard, and it’s availability is fast-approaching.

With Neverwinter‘s Jewel of the North update, which launches on August 24, developer Cryptic Studios is attempting to make the game more similar to its Dungeons & Dragons inspiration. The update will include a change to the game’s level cap, which will be reduced from 80 to 20. This will allow new players to more quickly access the title’s endgame content, and will reduce the power gap between novice and veteran players. Other quality-of-life improvements, such as a training room and objective tracker, are also intended to help newer players access Neverwinter. The addition of the Bard class will also add much more variety to the game, and a preview of Jewel of the North has declared all of these changes to be major improvements for the MMORPG.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A new cinematic trailer for Jewel of the North, released by Neverwinter via YouTube, gives a closer look at the update’s new Bard class. While a haunting melody is sung, fitting the Bard’s love for music, a number of still scenes are shown. One scene shows the Bard sword fighting with an enemy, illustrating the class’ skill with both a weapon and an instrument. More scenes are shown of the Bard and his two companions working together to battle their way through exotic locales and defeat powerful opponents. Neverwinter: Jewel of the South launches on August 24.

While some may question a musician’s usefulness on the battlefield, they’d be surprised to know Bards are a popular Dungeons & Dragons class – perhaps one of its most popular classes overall. A wide range of skills and abilities make Bards extremely useful during a typical D&D campaign, especially if other players choose more straightforward classes like warriors or mages. Bards typically have very high Charisma, allowing them to persuade others and gather information, and flexibility allows a Bard to fill a number of different roles for a group of adventurers. Magical abilities allow them to strengthen their allies and disrupt their foes, which can be quite handy in any number of situations.

Neverwinter has always been based heavily on Dungeons & Dragons, but the game’s latest update has pushed that connection to a new level. Jewel of the North‘s new leveling system brings the game more in line with its tabletop role-playing roots, and the addition of the Bard class is also a huge part of that movement. Whether strumming a guitar or gripping the handle of a sword, Neverwinter players can now embody the carefree nature of a Bard adventurer.

Neverwinter is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
