Nintendo Switch OLED Pre-Orders Being Delayed For Some Customers

Reportedly, a number of customers may be facing shipping delays related to their pre-ordered Nintendo Switch OLED consoles, despite the device’s October 8 release date. Nintendo announced Switch’s OLED model this past summer, promising a refined gaming experience on multiple fronts. Notably, the shiny new screen allows for better viewing angles, deeper blacks, and enhanced image quality.

In addition to the stunning 7-inch OLED display, which is slightly bigger than the LCD version’s 6.2-inch screen, the upgraded system also introduces a LAN port on the dock. The $350 refresh brings with it improved speakers, as well as increased storage with 64GB of available space. Plus, a much sturdier kickstand should ensure the Nintendo Switch’s tabletop mode proves far more reliable. And, naturally, Switch fans and newcomers alike are eager to get their hands on the console, especially since its rollout coincides with the highly-anticipated release of Metroid Dread.

Since the device hits stores tomorrow, October 8, many a customer patiently awaits word about their order’s shipment and tracking details. As VGC notes, however, several people have reported that orders in North America, the UK, and Australia remain in an odd sort of limbo. Some who pre-purchased the Switch OLED from Amazon UK won’t receive the product until next week, despite securing their model the day orders went live. Affected users who purchased the item from Nintendo say their payment details now appear inaccurate. Apparently, some Argos Online (UK retailer) customers haven’t received an order status update in months. Even Best Buy Canada shoppers may not have the OLED device shipped to them until later this month. Needless to say, these last-minute changes have left fans feeling anxious about tomorrow’s release.

The specific cause for such delays isn’t known, especially since Nintendo has yet to formally address the matter. Of course, the presumed shipment issues may stem from COVID-related setbacks. Supply shortages for PS5 and Xbox Series remain a widespread problem, for instance; who’s to say the latest Switch model won’t similarly be affected?

Hitting store shelves in early 2017, the original Nintendo Switch couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in terms of market performance. And the success has yet to cease, evidenced by the console recently crossing 89 million units sold worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch OLED is scheduled to hit stores on October 8.
