Ocean’s 8: ALL of the Cameos You Missed

Warning: the following contains spoilers for Ocean’s 8.

Ocean’s 8 features dozens of cameos, including the return of two original Ocean’s Eleven team members and a ton of celebrities playing themselves during the heist at the Met Gala. Almost fifty celebrities from film, fashion, and other industries have credited cameos in Ocean’s 8. As a result, not only does the film feature some fun and surprising cameos, but the Met’s red carpet in the film feels like a real star-studded event. Ironically, because the Met’s biggest fashion icon, Rihanna, is in Ocean’s 8, Rihanna herself does not make an appearance at the Gala.

Ocean’s 8 is a continuation of the Ocean’s franchise, rather than a reboot that erases the previous films. Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) is the sister of Danny Ocean (George Clooney), who learns that her brother is dead when she is released from prison. Debbie keeps a picture of her brother in the film, and one of her team members, Constance, comments on how attractive he is. Two members of Danny’s former team, Reuben (Elliot Gould) and Yen (Shaobo Qin), are both featured in the film. Originally, two more team members, Linus (Matt Damon) and Saul (Carl Reiner) were also slated to appear, but it seems that their cameos have been cut.

The tradition of celebrities appearing as themselves in the Ocean’s films began with Rusty (Brad Pitt) teaching celebrities how to play poker. The scene featured television stars Holly Marie Combs (Charmed), Topher Grace (That ’70s Show), Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek), Barry Watson (7th Heaven), and Shane West (Once And Again) as themselves. In Ocean’s 12, Bruce Willis plays himself opposite Julia Roberts playing Tess, who is pretending to be Julia Roberts.

Ocean’s Eleven Team Members Return

While Matt Damon and Carl Reiner were slated to return as Linus and Saul respectively, it appears that their cameos were cut from the film. However, Elliot Gould reprises his role as Reuben and Shaobo Qin returns as Yen.

Reuben meets with Debbie Ocean at the beginning of the film at the grave of her brother, Danny Ocean. He tells Debbie that he has heard about her plan, and while it is a brilliant heist, he thinks it will land her back in prison. Debbie ignores Reuben’s warning.

Yen’s role is both more surprising and more pivotal to the film. At the end of the film, Debbie and her partner Lou reveal that they decided to steal more than the Cartier diamond necklace. In addition, they steal the entire display of royal jewels that the Met has on display. To do this, Lou brings a surprise team member into the museum —Yen — who uses his acrobatic skills to take the jewels and replace them with replicas.
