The Misunderstood Mischief Special Research and its tasks and rewards are finally fully available in Pokemon Go. For the first time ever, Niantic introduced the concept of season-long Special Research assignments. Typically, all the Special Research tasks are dropped all at once for players to complete at their own pace. At the start of Misunderstood Mischief, players were only given the first steps. Players then needed to wait a few weeks for the next step to be released. This was all to show players how to catch Hoopa in Pokemon Go since it was one of the rewards. Now that all the steps are available, players can complete this Special Research from start to finish.
While Hoopa is the main Pokemon for this Special Research, players are able to capture it within the first few steps. The rest are centered around what Hoopa is doing to the world. This will likely lead to an upcoming Hoopa Unbound reveal, but this Special Research concludes without it.
There are still tons of rewards to collect for each step in Misunderstood Mischief. Hoopa was revealed during the Pokemon GO Strange Rings Special Research Tasks, which gave players a chance to obtain one. This Special Research is broken up into 16 different parts, and completing one will immediately unlock the next.
Misunderstood Mischief Special Research Tasks (& Rewards) in Pokemon Go
- Step 1/16: Make 10 Nice Throws: x1 Incense, Use an Incense: x10 PokeBall, Take 3 snapshots of wild Psychic-type Pokemon: x10 Nanab Berry, Rewards: Gothita, 1,000 XP, and x500 Stardust
- Step 2/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 3/16: Make 3 Curveball Throws: x15 Pokeball, Catch 10 different species of Pokemon: x5 Great Balls, Earn 5k Stardust: x3 Max Revives, Rewards: Hoopa, 1,000 XP, and x500 Stardust.
- Step 4/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP ad 720 Stardust.
- Step 5/16: Power up Pokemon 10 times: x15 PokeBall, Catch 20 Psychic-type Pokemon: Abra, Evolve 3 Psychic-type Pokemon: x3 Max Revive, Rewards: Wobbuffet, x10 Hyper Potion, and x10 Inkay Candy.
- Step 6/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 7/16: Take a snapshot of your Buddy: Furfrou, Catch a Furfrou: x1 Fast TMs, Earn a Heart with your Buddy: x1 Charged TMs, Rewards: Minccino encounter, x1 Unova Stone, and x15 Furfrou Candy.
- Step 8/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 9/16: Make 3 Nice Curveball Throws: x20 Slowpoke Candy, Transfer 30 Pokemon: Galarian Slowpoke, Evolve 1 Slowpoke: 1990 XP, Rewards: Shedinja, x5 Max Potion, and x40 Slowbro Mega Energy.
- Step 10/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 11/16: Earn 3 Candies walking with your Buddy: x10 Yamask Candy, Catch 30 Ghost-type Pokemon: x10 Phantump Candy, Catch 30 Dark-type Pokemon: x10 Pumpkaboo Candy, Rewards: Halloween Pikachu, x15 Ultra Ball, and x40 Gengar Mega Energy
- Step 12/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 13/16: Make a new Friend: Meditite encounter, Send 10 Gifts to Friends: Chinchou encounter, Use 20 Berries to help catch Pokemon: x2 Silver Pinap Berry, Rewards: Blitzle encounter, x1 Poffin, and x10 Dedenne Candy.
- Step 14/16: Claim Rewards. 720 XP and 720 Stardust.
- Step 15/16: Defeat 5 Team Go Rocket Grunts: x1 Rocket Radar, Defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader: x1 Super Rocket Radar, Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss: x1 Lucky Egg, Rewards: Absol encounter, x2 Golden Razz Berry, and x40 Houndoom Mega Energy.
- Step 16/16: Claim Rewards: 6000 XP, 20 Hoopa Candy, 1 Star Piece, and a Dusknoir Encounter.
There is no rush to clear out this Special Research in Pokemon Go since it will remain in the game until players complete it. Players can use the final Hoopa candy to help power up the Hoopa they collected earlier. After obtaining it, players can train it, set it as their buddy, or transfer it from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Home to save for future adventures.
