Pokémon Sword & Shield Event Brings Shiny Snom To Wild Area

A new Wild Area event has begun in Pokémon Sword and Shield, giving players a higher chance of encountering a Shiny Snom during a Max Raid Battle. Snom debuted in Pokémon Sword and Shield as a Bug/Ice-type Pokémon, which is known for being among Pokémon Sword and Shield’s worst competitive Pokémon.

Snom is an adorable Pokémon, but it’s not great in a fight, thanks to its abysmal stats. The Bug/Ice-type means that it takes X4 damage from Stealth Rock, which is still a major factor in competitive battles, and a Pokémon with a significant weakness to it is enough to make players reconsider using one on their team. Snom does have an evolved form in Frosmoth, but that also isn’t great, thanks to it being a glass cannon, even with the defensive benefits of the Ice Scales Ability on its side. Frosmoth’s evolution method in Pokémon Sword and Shield is also annoying, as it has to be leveled up at night with a high Friendship stat.

The Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s Galar region is hosting a new event, which features some of the smaller Pokémon in the series. These include Snom, Pyukumuku, and Pincurchin appearing in Max Raid Battles. According to the official Serebii Twitter page, this event increases the player’s chance of encountering a Shiny Snom in battle, giving them the chance to catch it. The event went live on September 9, and it will run until September 19, 2022.

Pokémon Sword & Shield Wild Area Event Has A Higher Chance Of Spawning Shiny Snom

Pokémon Sword and Shield have held similar events in the past, where regular Pokémon appear in greater numbers in the Wild Area, with a higher chance of being shiny. Pokémon Sword and Shield had a Shiny Shellder event back in May, with similar rules and chances for encountering one in a Max Raid Battle. These events help keep the non-competitive battling multiplayer scene active, as players flock back to the Wild Area to try and catch a Shiny Pokémon.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to launch in November, and those games will become the focus for The Pokémon Company, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Pokémon Sword and Shield won’t have Wild Area updates in the future. The existence of Pokémon Home means that players can share compatible Pokémon between games, so players can band together to catch Pokémon in Galar’s Wild Area, so that they can be traded to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The players who are heading back to the Galar region to try and catch a Shiny Snom should also take the chance to acquire Ash’s Sirfetch’d in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as it’s currently available as a free download.
