Pokemon Sword & Shield: Understanding Battle Tower Rankings and Rewards

One of the features within the title is the post-game Battle Tower game mode. A series of increasingly difficult battles in which players must defeat trainers. Similar to most Pokemon titles this mode is meant to encourage players to continue their time with the game even after beating the main story. With this mode and the various rewards unlocked for completing the mode, this will certainly provide plenty of incentive to continue a player’s journey through Galar.

How to Unlock the Battle Tower in Pokemon Sword and Shield

To unlock this mode, players need to complete the main story of the game. This includes getting all 8 Gym Badges and then challenging the Elite Four. These trainers are some of the hardest that a player will face in the entire game, making them difficult and worthy opponents. After this players must defeat the League champion Leon. Being the toughest challenge faced at this point in the game, players may have a difficult time overcoming the famous trainer. After completing this hurdle players will have unlocked this mentioned Battle Tower, in which facing Leon again will be the final challenge of the unlocked game mode.

Understanding the Battle Tower Rankings in Pokemon Sword and Shield

After unlocking the Battle Tower, players will begin to undergo the challenge of the tower itself. In this tower, players will face a number of trainers and gain and grow in rankings and rewards for doing so.

Rankings within the tower are relatively simple to understand, the first rank is Beginner, starting with a Rank of 2. As your Rank increases its numerical value you will “evolve” into different Pokeball categories. The number of wins required to increase in rank varies on how often you lose or forfeit matches. The ranks within the battle tower are as follows:

  • Beginner – Ranks 2-3
  • Pokeball – Ranks 4-6
  • Great Ball – Ranks 7-9
  • Ultra Ball – Rank 10
  • Master Ball – Ranks MAX

Each rank up will result in a variety of rewards.  As mentioned each numerical rank is associated with a particular reward. The rewards provided will grow in both number and value with every rank increase. The rewards for each rank are as follows:

  • Rank 2 – Rare Candy, 3 BP
  • Rank 3 – Rare Candy, 3 BP
  • Rank 4 – Rare Candy x2, Bottle Cap, Mint, 5 BP, IV Checker
  • Rank 5 – Rare Candy x2, Mint, 5 BP
  • Rank 6 – Rare Candy x2, Mint, 5 BP
  • Rank 7 – Rare Candy x3, Bottle Cap, Mint, 10 BP
  • Rank 8 – Rare Candy x3, Mint, 10 BP
  • Rank 9 – Rare candy x3, Mint, 10 BP
  • Rank 10 – Rare Candy x5, Mint, Bottle Cap x2, Ability Capsule, 20 BP
  • Rank MAX – Rare Candy x 10, Mint, Ability Capsule, Bottle Cap x3, Gold Bottle Cap, 50 BP

The Battle Tower provides a bounty of rewards for players after completing the game. This provides an incentive for players to continue their journey even after the main game. For both players looking to play competitively or casual players, the Battle Tower is a perfect place to test your skills.
