Players can eat any food that they happen to scavenge, any kind of large game that the player manages to bring down with their bow or guns, and even fish that they capture using a fishing rod. Fishing is a very fun and easy method of acquiring food in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Once players manage to catch a fish, they will need to make sure it’s cooked before eating. The game’s in-game crafting method is extremely simple to use as long as players are sitting around a campfire. They just need to make sure they have the right materials in their inventory before selecting a recipe at the fire. This guide will show players how to craft Flaky Fish in Red Dead Redemption 2.
RDR2: Catching the Right Fish
There are 15 different species of fish in RDR2 and players will only be able to use specific kinds to cook Flaky Fish. The upside though to this type of food is that there are 10 different types of fish that can be used to craft it. This means that players won’t have to work that hard to ensure they have the right crafting components. The fish species that can be turned into Flaky Fish is as follows:
Redfin Pickerel- Can be found in rivers throughout the world and are best caught using bread.
Perch- Best to look for them in rivers and lakes both during the day and will be attracted to bread.
Chain Pickerel- They can be found in almost all bodies of water when its sunny outside. They prefer corn bait.
Rock Bass- Best found at lakes and ponds when it’s sunny. Players will be able to catch them better with cheese.
Muskie- They are found almost exclusively in northern lakes when its cloudy outside. Players will need a lake lure to catch one.
Lake Sturgeon- This large fish is found almost exclusively in the deep waters of southern lakes and swamps. Players will need a man-made lake lure to bring one in.
Northern Pike- These will be found in northern rivers when it’s cloudy out. A river lure is necessary to catch this fish
Largemouth Bass- Players will be able to catch this bass in almost any river or lake in the south. They will be attracted to crawfish and will be most active when it rains.
Smallmouth Bass- These will mostly be found in northern rivers while it is raining. Players will have the most luck catching one with a live cricket.
RDR2: Crafting Flaky Fish
Once players have caught the appropriate fish, they will need to set up camp somewhere in order to start a fire. Through the campfire menu players will be able to select the crafting menu and use different recipes to cook. By selecting one of the many different kinds of fish, the player will be able to craft flaky fish. This gives a pretty decent boost to a player’s hearts, so it is a great resource to have. Players should also remember that they can season the fish with oregano, thyme, or mint to boost different abilities.
