The original Red Dead Redemption enjoys a fervent fanbase to this day, with many players returning to its deserts and forests daily. Experienced and inexperienced players alike will eventually encounter new outfits for John or Jack Marston to wear on their adventures. Each of these 16 outfits are unlocked through various means throughout the world of Red Dead Redemption.
Each outfit is acquired by completing one or more requirements, ranging from retrieving unique items to simply purchasing the outfit from a tailor. Once equipped, several outfits provide players with special attributes such as increased Dead Eye meter levels and regeneration. Not every outfit offers a boost to stats, but they do improve the Marstons’ aesthetics. No Red Dead Redemption treasure is greater than an impressive outfit.
Some of the outfits in Red Dead Redemption can be unlocked through normal gameplay, as the challenges will probably be completed during the main storyline. However, a slew of other outfits have very specific, and sometimes lengthy unlock requirements. In fact, some of the outfit requirements can take players an entire playthrough to complete. In addition, some outfits require players to find multiple scraps in various ways.

Cowboy Outfit
This is Marston’s typical bounty hunter clothing.

Gentleman’s Attire
Allows players to participate in high-stakes Poker games in Blackwater and make money in RDR.

- Scrap 3: Win at horseshoes in MacFarlane’s Ranch.
- Scrap 4: Claim a Bollard Twins gang bounty alive.
- Scrap 5: Defend residents of Hennigan’s Stead from the Bollard Twins Gang.
- Scrap 6: Purchase at the tailor in Thieves’ Landing ($150).
Treasure Hunter Outfit
Disguise yourself as part of the Treasure Hunter gang. Hopefully, the treasure is more rewarding in a Red Dead Redemption remaster.
- Scrap 1: Inside container in a small house in Silent Stead.
- Scrap 2: Complete the “California” Stranger mission.
- Scrap 3: Make a profit playing Blackjack at Rathskeller Fork.
- Scrap 4: Claim a Treasure Hunter bounty alive.

Duster Coat

Bandito
Outlaws and rebels will not attack you in Mexico unless provoked. Unfortunately, unlike real-life players, in-game NPCs aren’t provoked by lackluster Rockstar remasters like the GTA Trilogy.
- Scrap 1: Search Sidewinder Gulch. Inside, a chest in the camp can be located by three black squares on the map.
- Scrap 2: Complete a Nightwatch job in Chuparosa.
- Scrap 3: Defeat all players in a round of Liar’s Dice in Casa Madrugada.
- Scrap 4: Capture a Bandito bounty alive.
- Scrap 5: Defend Mexican residents from Bandito attacks.
- Scrap 6: Purchase at General Store in Chuparosa.
US Marshal Uniform
Dress as a marshal, and you will be treated as part of the law in the United States.
- Complete mission “The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed.”
- Complete the following Gang Hideouts within 24 hours of in-game time: Pike’s Basin, Twin Rocks, Fort Mercer, Tumbleweed, and Gaptooth Breach.
Reyes’ Rebels Outfit
Disguise yourself as one of Reyes’ Rebels, and you will be treated kindly by the law in Mexico.
- Scrap 1: Search the chest in the easternmost corner of Sepulcro’s cemetery.
- Scrap 2: Complete the “Poppycock” Stranger mission.
- Scrap 3: Complete a horse-breaking job in Chuparosa.
- Scrap 4: Complete the “Love is the Opiate” Stranger mission.
- Scrap 5: Win at Five Finger Fillet in Torquemada.
- Scrap 6: Purchase at the General Store in Escalera.
Mexican Poncho
A musty old poncho. A souvenir of your travels in Mexico. Reminiscent of iconic Western film characters.
- Purchase any safe house in Mexico.
Rancher Clothing
Marston’s typical clothing is when tending the ranch at Beecher’s Hope.
- Complete the mission “The Outlaw’s Return”
Bureau Uniform
Dress like a federal bureau agent, and the law won’t be able to touch you.
- Achieve 100% game completion.
U.S. Army Uniform
Look like an enlisted man while wearing this uniform and shooting at baddies in RDR.
