Resident Evil Animated Show Coming To Netflix in 2021

Netflix has released the first trailer for their upcoming CG-animated series, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which is scheduled to premiere in 2021. Netflix is currently also working on a live-action Resident Evil TV show centering on the Wesker kids, so it’s unclear whether or not the two projects will be narratively related to one another. The live-action Resident Evil show is being written by Supernatural’s Andrew Dabb and has Bronwen Hughes as executive producer.

Netflix released the teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness following the series’ official announcement at this weekend’s Tokyo Game Show. Originally thought to be a movie, Infinite Darkness will follow well-known Resident Evil characters, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. The series includes Hiroyuki Kobayashi of Capcom as an executive producer and is animated by the animation studio, Quebico. Little else is currently known, including any plot details or episode count, but you can watch the teaser trailer and check out the first poster for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, below.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The teaser trailer offers a grim, eerie atmosphere that is reminiscent of the Resident Evil video games. That will surely be to its benefit because while the previous Resident Evil film adaptations made over $1 billion dollars at the box office, reviews from both fans and critics were very mixed. Infinite Darkness, however, appears to lean more heavily into suspense that makes the games such a thrill to play rather than the big action of the movies.

The latest information surrounding Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness reads: Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an upcoming 2021 computer animated series that is a part of the Resident Evil franchise by Capcom. It is being created by Capcom in collaboration with Netflix. It will serve as a sequel to the previous Resident Evil CGI movies, with Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield returning as major characters, after having last appeared together in 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration.
