RuPaul’s Drag Race: Jonathan Van Ness Says ‘Brava’ To Denali’s Snatch Game

The RuPaul’s Drag Race fandom has grown by leaps and bounds in the past years, and now the franchise’s fan base includes celebrities as well. The season 13 Snatch Game episode recently aired, and as usual, the queens turned it out. Though some impersonations fell flat, there were several that impressed the judges and the show’s celebrity fans. Figure skating queen Denali Foxx impersonated Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Jonathan Van Ness, and the style guru gave his seal of approval.

The Snatch Game is a beloved challenge that happens every season. The queens are tasked with performing their best, and funniest, celebrity impersonations. Winning the Snatch Game is considered a prestigious honor, and though in season 13 Gottmik snagged the win, Denali’s impersonation landed her in the top three. The judges said Denali was “hilarious” and “spectacular,” and that she totally embodied Jonathan Van Ness. Denali may not have won the Snatch Game, but she definitely won the approval of the star she was impersonating.

Some fans had hoped Denali would play the game as Ariana Grande, but everyone was bowled over by her take on Jonathan Van Ness, including Jonathan Van Ness. When Denali posted a photo of her Snatch Game impersonation, Jonathan Van Ness shared his enthusiasm for Denali’s performance, commenting “Yassss!!! So Good.” Later, Jonathan Van Ness posted a shot from the Snatch Game and captioned it “Brava sis.” Even Jonathan Van Ness’ Queer Eye for the Straight Guy co-star Bobby Berk approved of the performance and said, “Okay, this is absolutely gorgeous!! Haha. Love it!!

The queens have been getting a lot of love from their celebrity fans this season. Australian pop star Kylie Minogue shouted out Gottmik’s ‘disco diva’ performance and Rihanna slid into Symone’s DMs to compliment the statuesque queen. RuPaul’s Drag Race has grown from a fledgling series with terrible lighting to a phenomenon that attracts an array of fans. Now, queens playing the Snatch Game are likely to have the subjects of their celebrity impersonations in the audience. The added scrutiny makes the Snatch Game all the more nerve-wracking for the queens.

With a booming fan base and even more spin-offs on the way, the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise is more popular than ever. The queens are generally happy to interact with (respectful) fans, and even more so when they’re celebrities that the queens idolize. As public figures, the queens are sometimes confronted with harsh criticism, but when their favorite celebrity is in their corner, the hate fades away like white noise.
