RuPaul’s Drag Race UK: Everything To Know About Joe Black

The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 fans have fallen in love with Joe Black and want to learn more about this fantastic drag and cabaret performer. When Drag Race UK season 2 first started, all the queens were clearly impressed by the fact that the legendary drag performer Joe Black had been cast in the season. There was a clear sense that Joe was well-known in the UK drag scene, as most of the contestants showed reverence to this artist. Unfortunately, the judges weren’t amazed by Joe’s references in the first episode’s runway, so Joe was promptly sent home.

Many weeks into the season, RuPaul had to break the news to the queens that Drag Race UK would have to stop filming immediately due to growing concern with the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an absolute shock to the queens and to the fans. Seven months later, filming resumed and the remaining contestants were invited to come back. However, Veronica Green was not able to return due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. In her place, eliminated contestants Joe Black, Cherry Valentine, and Asttina Mandella had the chance to come back into the show. Ultimately, Joe Black was voted by their co-stars to return.

Now a true RuPaul’s Drag Race UK fan-favorite, Joe Black is 30 years old and comes from Brighton, England. Joe has mostly worked in cabaret and burlesque, and describes their drag as “haunted glamour.” Overall, Joe is largely inspired by movies from the 1920s and 1930s, naming Norma Desmond and Marlene Dietrich as references. Joe has been performing for 13 years, which means that they were a reference to many young, up-and-coming drag performers in the United Kingdom.

After coming back for a second shot on Drag Race UK season 2, Joe Black was unfortunately sent home once again. It doesn’t help that this live singer with a spooky aesthetic was tasked to lip sync to a bubblegum pop song in a very girly girl group. And yet, Joe gave it their very best, both on the maxi challenge and on the runway.

At this point, Joe Black is no longer competing on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. However, the fans can keep up with Joe on social media and support this drag performer in their future endeavors.

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 airs Thursdays at 11 am PT / 2 pm ET exclusively on WOW Presents Plus in the US and select territories worldwide, day-and-date with its international airing on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
