Scarlet Witch & Doctor Doom’s Team-Up Shows What The MCU’s Missing

Warning! Spoilers for The Darkhold Omega #1 by Marvel Comics

The Marvel Cinematic Universe needs a team-up between Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom as a new battle in The Darkhold Omega #1 proves how epic it would be. In the finale to the Darkhold crossover event, Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom are forced to fight together to stop the Elder God Chthon from escaping the Other-Realm. While the pair fighting side-by-side is a lot of fun, it’s what follows the battle that makes their hatred for one another perfect for live-action.

Doctor Doom tried to acquire the dangerous power of the Darkhold, the literal Book of the Damned, for himself, leading to the villain accidentally awakening the Elder God Chthon, trapped in the Other-Realm. Scarlet Witch assembled a group of heroes to serve as the Darkhold Defenders to stop the powerful threat from breaking free and destroying her reality. However, after reading a small bit of the Darkhold to temper their madness in the Other-Realm, the heroes were turned into the Darkhold Defiled – leaving Scarlet Witch to navigate the Darkhold and Other-Realm while trying to push the twisted heroes against Chthon.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In The Darkhold Omega #1 by Steve Orlando, Cian Tormey, Jesus Aburtov, Mark Deering, Roberto Poggi, Walden Wong, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Scarlet Witch successfully sends the Darkhold Defiled to the Other-Realm. The twisted heroes promise to take down Wanda Maximoff when they return. Inside the Other-Realm, Chthon shows his face. But, as he’s about to teleport to Earth, Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch arrive through a portal and knock him to the ground. Doom (somewhat ironically) calls out Chthon’s arrogance as he unifies his spells alongside Scarlet Witch to knock down the powerful Elder God.

For those expecting Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom’s team-up to be friendly, you’re sadly mistaken. After Chthon is taken down, Doom reveals he wants the Darkhold for himself. Wanda ends up setting Doom on fire and absorbs the book herself, trapping Chthon inside her own being. In a later conversation with Doom on Earth, Scarlet Witch tells Doom she’s never going to be done burning him and that his ego is his biggest weakness. She ends up destroying Doom, who turns out to be a Doombot in disguise. In an epic exit, Scarlet Witch tells Doctor Doom he can’t threaten her anymore and that she has control from this point on.

Scarlet Witch is the perfect foil for Doctor Doom’s arrogance and ego. It has to bug him deeply that she absorbed the Darkhold before using it for his gain. When Doctor Doom comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be a shame if he never came face-to-face with the Scarlet Witch. Both magic-based heroes are the perfect adversaries for one another, with The Darkhold Omega #1 proving it once again.
