Snapchat: How To Remove Or Block Friends & What Happens When You Do

The ability to add someone on Snapchat ensures the platform can be used to stay connected with friends and family. However, the problem arises when that same user wants to remove or block someone, as while adding people is easy enough, doing the opposite can turn out to be far more confusing. Here’s a clearer understanding of how to remove friends on Snapchat and just as importantly, what happens afterwards.

Snapchat is one of most popular social media platforms around, and has especially proven popular with Generation Z. While the initial idea was to send images and videos that disappeared after a set amount of time, many new features have been added to Snapchat since then, including Stories. More recently, the app has been in the process of adding a tool to help users register to vote, and there are also plans to add music to Snaps in the future.

The temptation to block or remove a friend on Snapchat might blind the user to what happens afterwards. Once the user blocks a friend, they will no longer be able to view the user’s Story, Snap, or chat with them in the app. If it’s a question of just “removing” and not blocking them, they will still be able to see the user’s public stories, but blocking will simply remove the user from their Snapchat universe. The history will still be visible on their phone and they’ll still be able to see any saved messages, although they won’t have access to any of them. The question is then will they know if someone blocks them? The answer is no, but they might think that the user has deleted their account.

How To Block Or Remove A Friend

The first step to block or remove a friend is to open the Snapchat app on the phone and sign in. The user then needs to swipe to the right to open the friend’s screen and search for the friend that needs to be blocked, before tapping and holding their name. The next step is to tap on “more” and then on “Block” or “Remove Friend.” Snapchat will ask for a confirmation and once the user taps to confirm, the friend will be blocked or removed.

There’s another way to do this, however. The first step is to open the Snapchat app and go to the search bar at the top of the screen. The second step is to type in the username of the person that needs to be blocked and tap on their Bitmoji. Following which, look for the three-dot icon and tap it. The “Block” or “Remove Friend” commands will appear in red at the top and selecting the option will then prompt Snapchat to again ask for confirmation on deleting the person.

Before blocking someone, it’s important to be aware of how to unblock them again. To do this, tap the user’s icon in the top-left of your screen and then tap on the gear icon in the top-right. Once in “settings,” the next step is to scroll down to the bottom and tap on “blocked.” The name of the blocked friend will appear and to unblock them, tap on the “X” next to their name. There’s a slight complication here, considering that if the user wants to contact the blocked person on Snapchat again, they will have to send them a friend request again, even after they have been unblocked. If the friend isn’t a public user, they will have to accept the fresh “add friend” request which might be enough of an indication that they were previously blocked by their Snapchat ‘friend.’
