Spider-Man: Homecoming Stark Suit AI Voice Actor Confirmed

[Minor Spider-Man: Homecoming spoilers to follow.]

The actress who voices the Stark suit’s AI in Spider-Man: Homecoming has been revealed. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have gone out of their way to make sure Spider-Man: Homecoming looks and feels completely different than any of the other live-action Spider-Man films that have come before it. And by placing the film in a John Hughes-esque high school setting and populating it with multiple different characters and Easter eggs from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s becoming more and more clear that Marvel and Sony managed to do just that with this latest solo Spider-Man offering.

One of the more unexpected ways that Marvel has managed to differentiate this version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s previous iterations also, has been the unique design and technology in Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) Spider-Man suit, which was designed and given to him by Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Trailers and TV spots for Spider-Man: Homecoming have even revealed that the suit has an artificial intelligence of its own – one whom Peter interacts with multiple times throughout the film.

And as it turns out, the actress responsible for voicing that AI is quite a distinguished name in the entertainment industry. In a new interview with EW, director Jon Watts revealed that the AI – whom Peter later names “Karen” in the film – is voiced by none other than Oscar-winner, Jennifer Connelly. In an interesting twist as well, Connelly already had a bit of an indirect connection to the MCU prior to Homecoming, since she’s married to none other than Jarvis/The Vision himself, Paul Bettany, a connection that Watts admits he was aware of:

“Yes, it’s Jarvis’ wife. It’s cool, right?”

Connelly’s involvement isn’t necessarily a surprise. The actress was previously reported to have a small role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, before some of the first reporters/critics to see the film shot down the claim, at that time. However, as this interview confirms, it turns out that while Connelly doesn’t actually appear onscreen in the film, she still does play a role in it. And not only that, but Connelly’s role is one that could easily lead to future Spider-Man movies and other MCU appearances for “Karen”, depending on how the Stark suit is upgraded and evolves in the future.

Connelly is just one of several critically-acclaimed, veteran names attached to Spider-Man: Homecoming, though, with Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine, and more all having roles to play in the film itself. That’s a trend that’s only continuing to grow in each new film from Marvel Studios too, with both Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok not only boasting some of the best ensembles in MCU history, but in the entire comic book genre. Based solely on the early reviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming, it looks as though Marvel’s success streak is only going to continue here.
