The 10 Luckiest MCU Characters, Ranked

As She-Hulk continues to unfold Jennifer Walter’s story on Disney+, the series started her arc from her fortunate survival in a crash that led to her becoming the titular protagonist. While Jen was lucky to make it through, there have been characters with an even better case of good fortune.

This ranges from Tony Stark’s survival in space against all odds to Scott Lang being rescued by a rat. Luck has generally been the key factor for characters making it through all the conflict they’ve been part of, so it’s interesting to see which ones benefited the most and in what way.

10 Tony Stark

Most of the funniest quotes in MCU’s Phase One came from Tony, which wouldn’t have been possible had he not been lucky enough to survive the near-fatal attack on him in the first movie. Tony was definitely a genius, but he needed good fortune to avoid close shaves.

This includes falling into the portal leading back to Earth, just in the nick of time, rather than being trapped in space in The Avengers and being rescued by Captain Marvel in deep space in Avengers: Infinity War. His luck was also on display when Pepper, Rhodey, and Happy were all saved from Thanos’ Snap, meaning Tony didn’t lose as much during the Blip.

9 Steve Rogers

Fans on Twitter were recently abuzz over Captain America due to She-Hulk, which revealed he got a different kind of luck on a 1943 USO tour. But the character was fortunate overall, such as when he survived decades due to landing on conveniently placed ice, and when he was rescued by Bucky from the Helicarrier wreckage when he should have died.

Steve’s greatest stroke of luck came from the time travel that the Infinity Stones provided him with, which enabled him to return to the past to be with long-lost lover Peggy Carter. He did have to endure a lot, but Steve did have lady luck smiling at him overall.

8 Kate Bishop

Kate Bishop was far from trained during Hawkeye and mainly survived due to good luck. This included her many falls being broken by fortunately placed material along the way and her random use of trick arrows that turned out to be just what she wanted at that moment.

Kate eventually became adept enough to fight in her own right, but she needed things to fall in place to get there. In fact, Kate was lucky enough to enter the auction for the Ronan suit that got her involved in the entire situation, meaning her turn into a hero came down to happenstance.

7 Korg

MCU fans generally see Korg as something of a walking meme, with the character involved in a lot of hilarity. But it wouldn’t have been possible had he not been lucky to survive. Thor: Love and Thunder nearly saw him killed by Zeus, only for the latter to conveniently miss Korg’s face, which was the only thing keeping him alive.

Korg was also lucky that he happened to be bunking with Thor on Sakaar, without which he would never have been able to break out. Korg’s greatest stroke of luck was when Thanos didn’t choose to execute him and allowed him to escape while the other half on the ship were the unfortunate ones killed off.

6 Happy Hogan

Happy got to keep his life and livelihood due to the intervention of other factors. He was nearly killed by Justin Hammer’s forces in Iron Man 2 until Black Widow saved him, was similarly able to survive in Iron Man 3 by being put into a medically induced coma, and kept his job in Spider-Man: Homecoming due to the titular protagonist’s efforts.

Happy’s loyalty to his friends is absolute, and he’s only gotten into tight situations because he’s looked out for them. Still, he wouldn’t have made it so far had his allies not conveniently been in the proper place to save him, although Happy is now on his after losing his memories of Peter following Tony and May’s deaths.

5 James Rhodes

Rhodey’s one of the most efficient characters in terms of combat, but even he’s needed luck to survive. He was fortunate when Tony came to his rescue in Iron Man 3’s climax just when he was about to be offed, when his fall in Captain America: Civil War was luckily cushioned by his armor, and when he was rescued from drowning in Avengers: Endgame by Ant-Man.

Rhodey’s good fortune was evident when he was among the half in the universe who didn’t perish in Thanos’ Snap, along with not being selected to go to Vormir when he was so close to taking the journey that he would most likely have died.

4 Clint Barton

Clint has had numerous close calls during his time that have allowed him to live so far. In The Avengers, he was lucky not to be killed by Loki in the opening and somehow snapped out of his mind control when there didn’t seem to be a way. Clint also survived in Avengers: Age of Ultron due to the convenient presence of the Regeneration Cradle.

Clint’s luck continued when Quicksilver stood in his way to take the bullets he would have died for, while Black Widow sacrificed herself for him in Avengers: Endgame. Although Clint, unfortunately, lost his family in the Snap, he was also fortunate that they all returned for him to reunite his family

3 Baby Groot

Baby Groot would have easily died in the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had his friends not spotted him near peril each time and rescued him. He was also lucky that the mutinous Ravagers decided to not only let him live but to roam free, allowing Groot to rescue Rocket and Yondu.

Baby Groot’s existence itself is a stroke of luck since he happened to be the sapling that Rocket recovered from the original Groot’s remains. He wasn’t as lucky when he was older when he was a casualty of the Snap, but his baby form survived infancy due to luck being on his side.

2 Loki Laufeyson

Loki is generally seen as among the best villains in the MCU, with the character living through moments that would have killed anyone else. Loki’s luck was on display when he survived falling in through the chasm in Thor, and though he lost in the Battle of New York and taken captive by Asgard, he at least had a comfortable prison.

Loki’s luck again showed up when he fell into Sakaar rather than die, where he secured the Grandmaster’s favor. While the original Loki died at Thanos’ hands, the character was lucky once again when his variant escaped with the Space Stone and found a reprieve with the Time Variance Authority to redeem himself.

1 Scott Lang

Scott is easily the luckiest MCU character for making it through impossible odds to regain his freedom and his family and save the universe. He was firstly fortunate when he escaped the Quantum Realm, which had earlier trapped Janet van Dyne for 30 years.

Scott’s greatest luck shined on him when a rat opened the portal to the Quantum Realm where he’d been trapped – time only passed for a few hours for him as opposed to five years like everyone else. Scott was lucky that his family survived the Snap, and his good fortune gave him the idea for the Time Heist that ultimately brought back everyone, who had been killed by Thanos.
