The Boys Season 3 Wraps Filming, Confirms Karl Urban

The Boys’ Karl Urban has confirmed that filming has wrapped on season 3 of Amazon Prime’s hit series. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys was created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg alongside showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural). The show follows Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Billy Butcher (Urban), and the titular “Boys” as they struggle to expose the truth behind corrupt, abusive superheroes and the conglomerate that enables them, Vought International. Season 2 largely improved upon the first with its irreverent humor, boundary-pushing violence, social commentary, and apt character development.

In addition to starring Quaid, Urban, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and Nathan Mitchell, Claudia Doumit and Colby Minifie have both been made regulars for season 3. The third season will also introduce important newcomers in Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Katia Winter as Little Nina, and a handful of other “Supes.” The Boys has been in production in Toronto and will likely premiere in late 2021 or early 2022.

Principal cast members including Urban, Quaid, and Ackles recently shared photos and videos on Instagram commemorating a filming wrap on The Boys season 3. Urban thanked the cast, crew, and those who worked so hard keeping everyone safe while shooting a “next level bat sh-t crazy good season 3.” Check it out below:

As is the case with Quaid’s post, Urban appears to be flying out of Toronto, Ontario after filming there since February. Every season of The Boys has primarily been shot in Ontario, where a handful of other shows and movies are filmed, including HBO’s expensive series, The Last of Us. That being said, The Boys’ first season cost Amazon $10 million an episode, season 2 had an even bigger budget, and season 3 will likely up the ante even more, resulting in bigger action set pieces and more intense and emotional moments.

The end of The Boys’ second season saw Homelander (Starr) coerced into forgetting about his super-powered son, allowing Starlight (Moriarty) back into the Seven, and leaving the Boys alone. Just when all was thought to be relatively okay with the world, it was revealed that Victoria Neuman (Doumit), a congresswoman who was thought to be an ally to those looking to take down Vought, is a Supe with the power to explode the heads of key witnesses. It’s unclear whether Neuman is working with Vought. Regardless, it seems Hughie will have to quit his job with the Bureau of Superhuman Affairs and do things the old-fashioned way in season 3.
