The Expanse: Every Episode In Season 1, Ranked (According To IMDb)

Over the years, sci-fi drama series have usually failed to live up to the expectations of the fans but with shows like Dark and The Expanse around, one thing is for sure, the viewers are never going to stop wanting more of this supernatural stuff.

The plotline, the over the top emotional trauma, and stunning visuals make for a thrilling watch and Amazon Original The Expanse isn’t any different. Years into the future, humans have taken over the entire Solar System and are now scattered into groups wanting to kill each other. Here’s how every episode from the opening season of the critically acclaimed series ranks according to scores on IMDb.

10 “Dulcinea” (7.7)

In the first episode of the series, a general introduction as to the state of the Solar System is given before the fans get a trip to The Ceres Station in the asteroid belt. A detective named Miller is given a task to investigate the disappearance of Julie Mao, a girl who has a very rich inheritance.

Also, as part of the Ice Freighter Canterbury, James Holden and his crew answer a distress call from a mysterious ship The Scopuli.

9 “The Big Empty” (7.7)

In the second episode of season 1, some things about Earth are revealed, as there seems to be a friction between Earthers and Belters. Chrisjen Avasarala, UN Deputy Undersecretary, is interrogating a Belter terrorist.

At Ceres Station, Miller is uncovering truths about Julie but as he gets close, there are people who don’t want him to find out. Moreover, Holden and his crew are fighting for their lives.

8 “Back To The Butcher” (7.8)

In the fifth episode of season 1, so far, one of the best characters of the show, Miller is obsessing with Mao’s disappearance and it’s clear that this has become more than a case. He has a couple of conspiracy theories and it seems like he is getting very close to the truth.

Elsewhere, Holden and his crew must make a deal with someone they don’t collectively like. But, for the time being, they need a safe place and Tycho Station should do for the time being.

7 “Remember The Cant” (8.0)

In the third episode of season 1, Avasarala is engaging in a game of politics, something which the Earthers are familiar with, while Holden and his crew have been taken hostage by the Martian Congressional Republic Navy ship, The Donnager.

They are being interrogated and it’s obvious as to why they are turning on each other. Meanwhile, Ceres Station is dealing with some riots, with Miller connecting The Scopuli to Julie.

6 “Rock Bottom” (8.0)

In the sixth episode of season 1, the happenings at Tycho Station are revealed to the fans and it seems like the host has some ulterior motives. Holden and the crew have to be wary of the place they are staying in because anything can happen.

There are a lot of people in the Solar System behind them. They could even have a bounty on their heads. Moreover, Miller has discovered another interesting thing. It’s a data cube.

5 “Windmills” (8.0)

In the seventh episode of season 1, Avasarala makes a trip to Montana, trying to meet Holden’s family and the fans gather some good information about one of the protagonists of the story.

Meanwhile, Miller is forging ahead, even though he doesn’t have much information to go on. Holden and his crew are on The Rocinante and it turns out, they are not alone. There is a Martian blockade going on.

4 “CBQ” (8.7)

In the fourth episode of season 1, Miller has to understand that someone doesn’t want him to look into Julie because, since the beginning of that investigation, some mysterious things have happened on the Ceres Station.

Holden and the crew are caught inside The Donnager as some ships attack the Martian ship. And it turns out, they are using stealth tech, which is considered very rare. It seems like there is a huge conspiracy going on.

3 “Salvage” (8.7)

In the eighth episode of season 1, the most anticipated moment happens as Holden and the crew finally meet Miller. It’s the Eros Station and their paths have coincided like they were meant to.

Julie Mao is the reason and it might be too late because she is already dead and an alien organism seems to have done the job. Finally, the secrets are coming out and it would be beneficial for everyone if they leave Eros.

2 “Critical Mass” (8.7)

In the penultimate episode of season 1, Julie’s story comes to light before the scene cuts at the supernatural events happening at Eros. Everyone is stuck on this piece of rock, which is about to be used as an experimenting center for The Protomolecule.

Holden and Miller are ailing as they have contracted cancer and they must not only get other people safe, but they must also find a way to survive. Things are getting heated inside The Rocinante.

1 “Leviathan Wakes” (8.8)

The season 1 finale of the show is a brilliant ending to an outstanding first outing. Multiple storylines are closed, while the secrets about The Protomolecule are carried into the next season.

Miller and Holden are in a race against time, with the crew on The Rocinante getting reckless, especially Alex, although the decision he took turned out to be the right one. On Earth, the government is in splits with regard to what’s happening at Eros.
