The Knight Before Christmas: 10 BTS Things Viewers Didn’t Notice

One of this year’s holiday films on Netflix stars High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens and Poldark’s Josh Whitehouse. The Knight Before Christmas is the enchanting tale about love conquering all — including different timezones. When a knight from the 14th century finds himself in modern-day America, a teacher named Brooke helps him land on his feet.

As with most holiday films, these two fall for one another while learning about each other’s lives. And while the charming film has been a hit with viewers, there were a few behind-the-scenes flubs that occurred while filming that viewers didn’t notice until now.

10 LET’S JUST SAY BROOKE’S VILLAGE WASN’T IN OHIO

When Sir Cole gets hit by Brooke’s car, he asks what village they’re in. “Bracebridge, Ohio,” she replies. Perplexed, Sir Cole doesn’t understand how he’s in Ohio when mere minutes ago he was in England.

However, behind the scenes, there is no Bracebridge, Ohio, but there is a Bracebridge, Ontario, which is where the film was mainly shot. As for the castle that we see Sir Cole in front of, that was shot The Charleville Castle in Tullamore, Irland!

9 ARE ALL NETFLIX HOLIDAY FILMS FILMED IN THE SAME UNIVERSE?

The more holiday movies Netflix pumps out, the more we realize that they may all be in the same universe.

In A Christmas Prince, Richard and Amber are the King and Queen of a fictional country called Aldovia. And in A Knight Before Christmas, we see Brooke and Madison decorating the Christmas tree when Madison looks at their Christmas ornament from their trip to Aldovia. In the world of Netflix holidays, we have countries like Aldovia, Belgravia, Montenaro, and towns like Bracebridge, Ohio, apparently.

8 NETFLIX ADS WITHIN THE MOVIE

Netflix has no shame. When it comes to holiday movies, it’s almost guaranteed that we’re going to see the main characters relaxing and watching TV at least once (sipping hot cocoa is also a must). In A Knight Before Christmas, Brooke shows Sir Cole where he’ll be sleeping for the night and he’s mesmerized by her television.

When she turns it on, Netflix’s The Holiday Calendar can be seen on her TV. He stays up all night watching TV, trying to learn about modern-day life. However, when Brooke shows up to check on Sir Cole, the two end up bingeing Netflix and falling asleep. His movie of choice then is Into the Wild.

7 THE STORYLINE IS VERY SIMILAR TO A 2001 ROM-COM CLASSIC

Nineties babies who watched A Knight Before Christmas may realize a similarity between this film and another.

In 2001, a movie called Kate and Leopold came out with a very similar plotline. A woman is living in modern-day New York City when a man from the 1870s somehow gets lost in a time warp and winds up in the year 2001. The two try to figure out how something like this could have happened before he’s transported back to his original era. Ironically, A Knight Before Christmas is almost exactly the same.

6 KEEP AN EYE OUT ON VANESSA’S TATTOOS

In a small cosmetic blooper from the makeup and costume department for Netflix, we see actress Vanessa Hudgens’ neck tattoo around the 4:46 mark. Hudgens has a few tattoos but she has a butterfly on the side of her neck, where her hair usually covers. I

n this scene, Brooke is having a heart-to-heart with a promising student where we can see her butterfly tattoo peaking out when her hair moves. Later in the movie, however, her tattoo is concealed.

5 OKAY LADIES, NOW LET’S GET IN FORMATION

When Sir Cole finds himself at a Christmas market in Ohio in 2019, he walks around mystified by the happenings around him. How could this have happened? He’s looking for the old crone who put him in this position when a group of young teens approach him for a selfie.

We see the four girls get in a formation around Cole for the picture but when we have a look at the girl’s cell phone, the girls are in a completely different position and are making different faces. This was probably the more notable of all the flubs in this holiday film.

4 GIANT TIGERS AREN’T FOUND IN OHIO

To get ready for Brooke’s family’s charity event, she heads to the local supermarket to grab some ingredients. She brings Sir Cole along for the ride as they pull up to a Giant Tiger Store. While there’s nothing wrong with this grocery store chain, the state of Ohio doesn’t have Giant Tiger.

And according to the store’s website, they’re operated out of Canada, which makes sense since that’s where this film was shot. We do appreciate Sir Cole’s love for bread and hot cocoa in these scenes, though.

3 I THOUGHT THERE WAS A BLIZARD?

After Brooke’s sister Madison finally meets Cole, she’s at a loss for words at how cute (and strange) he is. While the two head back to where Sir Cole is staying, he opens the door around the 27:33 mark and we see the two women at the door.

But when he opens the door even wider, we can see bright green grass and lush trees behind them! Isn’t it supposed to be winter in Ohio? And isn’t there a snowstorm on the way? The production team obviously didn’t think the grass would make the cut but eagle-eyed fans noticed this instantly.

2 SIR COLE (JOSH WHITEHOUSE) PERFORMED AND WROTE A SONG FOR THE FILM

Sir Cole is played by English actor Josh Whitehouse. The star-on-the-rise has been acting since 2014 and most known for his role in Alleycats and Poldark. It appears his schedule is about to get busier though because Whitehouse has three projects he just wrapped up, according to IMDb.

But Whitehouse isn’t just an actor, he’s a singer/songwriter, too. For the film, he wrote and sang a song called “Before Christmas,” proving that he’s the total package.

1 WHERE DID BROOKE’S TREE GO?

About 30 minutes into the movie, Sir Cole convinces Brooke to buy a real Christmas tree instead of putting up a fake one. They arrive at the Christmas tree farm where we see Brooke’s car parked right out front. However, while the two are browsing for Christmas trees, we see a Christmas tree already wrapped and ready to go on top of her car.

Uh, weren’t they still looking at them? After Cole and Brooke choose their dream tree, we see Cole tying the tree to the top of the car, however, it’s the same one that was already strapped to the top of the car when they rolled up!
