The Myers-Briggs® Types Of Booksmart Characters

Booksmart is Olivia Wilde’s coming of age masterpiece about two high school BFFs who decide to have the most epic night of their lives before graduation. With a whopping 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and much critical praise, the film is undeniably a smash hit. Filled with exuberant personalities, the movie prides itself on its multi-dimensional characters who break away from the usual high school stereotype personas we are so used to seeing in film. It is almost revolutionary in that way, and because these characters are so interesting they deserve to be analyzed accordingly. So why not have some fun and dive into their MBTIs?

10 MS. FINE – INFJ

INFJs have the natural ability to provide guidance and counseling for those who need it most. This is why Ms. Fine as a potential INFJ is quick to pick up Molly and Amy from the pizza parlor only moments after they buzz her.

Not only does she give them a ride to the party while providing them with hilariously sequenced outfits, but she also gives them sound advice on the importance of finding balance within your work responsibilities and social life. Despite the fact that she is banned from all Jamba Juices nationwide (and will never be able to have a mango smoothie again), she is a kind and gentle soul with everlasting wisdom.

9 PRINCIPAL BROWN – INFP

All Principal Brown wants is some gosh darn peace and quiet like a true INFP, which seems to be nearly impossible with Molly and Amy constantly pestering him with school questions. Typical of this personality type, Brown dreams of one day becoming a famous author and is even working up the ideas to a novel about, (you’ll like this), a lady detective. Eh? How’s that for progressive? At least this is how Brown sees it! Plus, as far as we’re concerned, only an INFP would randomly come up with the line “There’s nothing more exciting and daunting than the blank page…”.

We honestly hope his “lady detective” novel becomes a smashing success so he doesn’t have to keep awkwardly Lyft driving his students!

8 RYAN – ISTP

Ryan has all of the qualities of your typical female ISTP. She’s a rare find, she’s mysterious, intriguing, and she kills it on the skateboard. With her tomboy persona and sense of style, she stands out from the crowd,  which one of the reasons why Amy is so head over heels for her.

Oh, and she’s also got that “sharp chin” that Amy loves, so there’s that too. From what we can see, Ryan has a knack for adventure whether it comes to partying or skating through campus. This sense of adventure something ISTPs are known for and it is what makes us want to gravitate towards them, just like Amy.

7 DOUG AND CHARMAINE – ISFJ

Doug and Charmaine are able to keep the tradition of their religious beliefs alive within their family unit, yet they are also willing to be as progressive as humanly possible for the sake of their kid who is both “beautiful and brave”. Their combination of Christian values along with their full acceptance of their daughter’s sexual preference is what gives them total ISFJ vibes – that is, combining tradition with progressive thinking. Plus, who better than ISFJs to make adorable and punny graduation themed snacks for Molly and Amy?

6 JARED – ESFP

ESFPs are known for being “the life of the party” as well as “the entertainers”. Nobody knows how to throw a party in order to get “consensually bashed” quite like Jared. He was born to amuse others and keep them smiling, which is exactly what Jared so effortlessly does. Yet underneath that energetic and playful persona, there is a person who just wants to experience a deep connection and make a change in this world. That change includes his desire to create an original Broadway musical (and not one of those “lame remakes”).

Who wouldn’t want to be friends with someone like Jared?

5 HOPE – ENTP

Although Hope originally comes off as cold and argumentative, once you uncover that icy persona there is a kind and caring person underneath. A person who will even end up tolerating the fact you threw up all over them during a makeout session at a party. It takes a big person to forgive that sort of thing, so this Julia Roberts-lookalike clearly has a lot more going for her than the cold exterior she puts on for the rest of the world. It is unclear whether or not Hope or Amy will continue their romance considering how Amy will be gone for a year “handmaking tampons in Botswana”, but we’re kinda hoping they get married one day, but that’s just us.

4 GIGI – ENFP

Someone give this woman a crown for being the queen of spontaneity. Also please give her a crown just for being the queen in general because that’s what she is, and she is literally the human example of sheer perfection. Her zany persona and desire to experience everything that life has to possibly offer makes her seem to us like a true ENFP.

With Gigi, you never know what you’re gonna get, and that’s all just part of the fun. Whether she’s consuming special strawberries or jumping into the ocean from the top of a large boat, her oddball behavior makes her truly incredible and ENFP-like. If anything, she’s the modern day Mad Hatter dressed in early 2000s clothing.

3 ALAN AND GEORGE – ESFJ

Who better than ESFJs to bring on all the theatrical drama to the highest level of “extraness”? Alan and George are a brilliant team whether it’s because of their witty remarks or their murder mystery themed parties that they throw on the regular, “just because”. If anyone is gonna bring on the dramatic entertainment, it’s ESFJs. As Alan hilariously says, “Mark thy calendars and make thy plans to attend the drama department’s summer program, Shakespeare in the Park…ing lot.”

2 AMY – INTP

Amy has all the traits of an INTP. She’s mysterious, she’s loyal, and she’s effortlessly brilliant. Although some might label her as timid or meek (cough cough, Hope, cough cough), it turns out that despite her soft-spoken and rather shy nature, she’s easily the most heroic person in the room. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t have saved the day by sacrificing herself to the cops. Like most INTPs, it takes work for them to let people into their worlds and to open up, but once they let you in, you will discover how rich and unique their minds really are.

1 MOLLY – ESTJ

Molly is the classic example of an ESTJ. She’s intelligent, brave, and demanding. Molly will stop at nothing to fight for what she wants in life and that includes going to wild measures in order to get there. Molly is the ultimate winner and go-getter which is made apparent from the very first scene in Booksmart when she’s listening to that ultimate ESTJ self-help tape.

Self-help tape: “Good morning, winner. Take a deep breath. Visualize the mountain of your success and look down at everyone who’s ever doubted you. F*ck those losers. F*ck them in their stupid f*cking faces.”
