The Office: 10 Times Dwight Proved Himself Assistant (To The) Regional Manager

Dwight Schrute from The Office is possibly the most reliable ally a boss can hope to have in an office, or beyond it. When Michael referred to him as the very definition of superlative in his last recommendation letter for him, he really did mean it. Although he wasn’t very regular about showing his appreciation for Dwight’s undying loyalty, Michael was entirely aware of how committed Dwight was to the role of assistant to the regional manager.

And though Dwight has had some really bad moments and also encouraged Michael’s erratic, inappropriate ideas, Dwight was also incredibly loyal to Michael and the company, and it extended beyond his paycheck. Here are all the times Dwight proved himself to be a worthy assistant (to the) Regional Manager.

10 When He Helped Michael Clear A Drug Test

Michael knew immediately who to approach when he needed some clean urine to clear a drug test. He went to Dwight because he would be completely discreet about it, because of his loyalty to Michael. But the thing is, Dwight is extremely anti-drug, and was in fact voluntarily conducting the investigation to find out who had used drugs at the Dunder Mifflin premises.

And it was evident that Dwight went through an acute dilemma over helping Michael with this. But he put his principles on the line and even hung up his beloved badge just to help Michael get out of trouble.

9 When He Rushed To Help Michael In Spite of Having A Concussion

Remember when Michael was being a total baby about his grilled foot? Dwight was the only person who rushed out to help him out, when ironically he is the only person Michael did not want to come. Dwight gets a concussion because he gets into a minor car accident when he was rushing to reach Michael’s home.

He gets out of the car, throws up over his hood, and still drives off to help Michael with his burnt foot situation. Interestingly, when Michael has to return the favor at the end of the day and take Dwight to the hospital for a check-up, he tries to get out of it.

8 When He Had Faith In Michael’s Vision

When Ryan became Michael’s boss and tried to implement some new-age ideas, Michael naturally felt insecure, as he felt the company would eventually try to change his management style, or even push him out because of his age. Dwight could understand Michael’s anxieties, and stood by each of his decisions, even when he did not have to.

Remember when he was right by Michael when the latter openly challenged Ryan on his management skills? Or when Dwight accompanied Michael to deliver the gigantic gift hampers to several offices?

7 When Dwight Was The Only Person Who Cared About Michael’s Birthday

It’s evident that no one cared about Michael as much as Dwight did; Dwight was not just his assistant, but was a nanny-cum-guardian-angel, as he was there to fix his blunders at all times. He was the only one who would make a big deal about Michael’s birthday every year, especially since no one else was enthusiastic about celebrating it.

Dwight not only single-handedly organized the food and other details, but also did research about Michael’s actual time of birth so he could celebrate the exact moment. All this is obviously not brown-nosing, but reflects how deeply Dwight cared about Michael.

6 When He Gave Michael A Peanut Butter Massage

For most assistants, massaging their boss’s head would be a no-go, but Dwight voluntarily offered to massage Michael’s head with peanut butter to get out some gum. This may seem like an insignificant gesture, but this marks a pattern which proves that Dwight was basically Michael’s man Friday.

Remember how Dwight performed a weird massage ritual called sending ‘the chills’ to help Michael relax, or prepared an actual mixtape for Michael’s car for when he is driving with a woman too?

5 Every Time He Helps Michael Get Over Breakups

Almost everyone has that friend who can be a great post break-up crying shoulder. For Michael, that was definitely Dwight. He not only helped Michael cope, but also constantly boosted his self esteem and tried to cheer him up. For instance, he tried his best to pull Michael out of his misery when he was devastated over his breakup with Holly and would only listen to James Blunt songs.

Dwight was even upset that Michael would date Pam’s mother and not his. “I would have really appreciated a heads up that you’re into dating mothers. I would have introduced you to mine,” he tells Michael.

4 When He Kept Guard Over Michael in The Forest

After being excluded from Ryan’s corporate nature retreat, Michael is offended and vows to prove to his employees that he can survive in the wild on his own. He has Dwight drive him to the woods and asks him to leave.

But Dwight, being the loyal lieutenant, keeps watch over him the entire time, as he obviously knew Michael wouldn’t do well at all. He followed Michael all day, observed him through the scope of his shotgun, but had to jump in to save Michael when he ate a bunch of poisoned mushrooms.

3 When He Helps Michael On Safety Training Day

Michael’s safety training day stunt was epic for more than one reason; it didn’t just include a bouncy castle or a dramatized rooftop monologue, but also watermelons. The point is, irrespective of how petty or how unreasonably stupid Michael chose to be, Dwight was right by his side.

From fetching an actual bouncy castle in the middle of a work day, to convincing others Michael is depressed, he really did pull out all the stops whenever Michael needed him. Fans have pointed out that this would mean Dwight is just as dumb as his boss, but in reality this points towards his unquestioning loyalty to Michael as the assistant to the regional manager.

2 When He Helps Michael Make A Video For His Future Son

Remember when Dwight actually put on a bra so Michael could demonstrate to his future son how to open a women’s bra in a very unnecessary and inappropriate video? Dwight was shooting the video for Michael because the latter had an epiphany about life being too short after he electrocuted himself while he tried to scrape some gunk out of his wall sockets with a metal fork.

Not only did Dwight help his coordinate everything, but he also put on the bra after Pam refused to wear it, just to follow through on Michael’s ridiculous idea.

1 Helping Michael When Dunder Mifflin Was About To Be Shut Down

Remember when the Scranton branch had a nasty shock as Jan announced that their branch was about to be shut down? Interestingly, not a lot of people were sad about it, as people seemed almost pleased that they could get out of the company. Except of course, Michael and Dwight, who drove together to David Wallace’s home to try and change his mind. Granted they didn’t do anything, as Wallace never came home and they just sat outside his house in their car.

But fans noted how only Dwight and Michael were the ones desperately trying to save the company, and it was clear that Dunder Mifflin was more than just a workplace for them. The fact that Dwight was on the same page as Michael and cared about the company on the same frequency, if not more made him so worthy of his role.
