Several of the biggest issues The Sims 4 is facing will be addressed in two patches this month. These range from minor issues like broken textures to game-breaking glitches that can prevent progression. There is no current announcement on when these patches will be released.
Since its launch in 2014, The Sims 4 has had numerous patches, often being released alongside additional paid content. While most of this content works as intended, new additions are prone to causing issues with the rest of the game. Additionally, new glitches and hiccups can form on their own, independent of DLC additions. Most companies, especially ones as large as EA, will tackle these bugs as quickly as possible. Some might take longer to eradicate, however.
As revealed in a tweet on The Sims’ account, and further discussed on the studio’s website, EA is dealing with several glitches and issues in May. All of these issues have been posted on the official forums by players. The first patch will fix problems such as broken textures on counters or while playing in laptop mode. Other issues addressed include the voodoo doll looking strange after use and videos not transferring from drones to video stations.

There will also be a more substantial patch later in the month. This will tackle much bigger issues. For example, bugs preventing Sims from going to school or work, as well as a glitch keeping Sims constantly sad, will be addressed. Some of the fixes will apply only to content from DLC, such as the inability to ship on Plopsy in the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack. Given that all of the topics mentioned in EA’s post are considered “top community concerns,” other unaddressed issues may be fixed in the patches as well.
The announcement has been met with overall praise from players. Many in particular are glad the “Hates Children” trait is being updated so quickly. Others, however, are quick to point out the irony of the “Laundry List” not mentioning any of the issues with laundry. Again, it’s possible these are smaller glitches that will be fixed in the same patch, but there is no way to know for certain yet.
Glitches are annoying and frustrating in any game, but for a life simulator such as The Sims, they can be particularly immersion-breaking, even for a game featuring vampires and walking scarecrows. Consistent updates and patches like these will keep the game alive and supported. Even after nearly seven years, The Sims 4 shows no signs of slowing down, as long as it’s given the attention it needs to succeed.
