The Voice: Ariana Grande Appears In New ‘Don’t Look Up’ Trailer

The Voice’s Ariana Grande has appeared in the new trailer for Adam McKay’s Netflix film, Don’t Look Up. The film follows an astronomy graduate student, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and her professor, portrayed by Leonardo Dicaprio. Together they try to warn the world that a comet is heading towards Earth. The film is overflowing with stars, including Meryl Streep, Tyler Perry, Jonah Hill, and Timothee Chalamet. It was written and directed by Adam and is set to be released on December 10th.

The film is certainly not Ariana’s first acting venture. The pop star’s acting debut came in a 2008 Broadway musical called 13. She later starred in two Nickelodeon series, Victorious and Sam & Cat, and was later cast as Penny Pingleton in NBC’s Hairspray Live! Recently, Ariana announced on social media that she would be playing Glinda in the upcoming live-action Wicked movie. Kristin Chenoweth originated the role in the Broadway production. Kristin and Ariana worked together on Hairspray Live! and the Broadway star acted as Ariana’s Battle Rounds mentor on The Voice.

Ariana now has another acting gig to add to her resume, as she has appeared in the new trailer for Don’t Look Up. The singer arrives about one minute and thirty-six seconds into the trailer sporting a studded choker and a space bun hairstyle. Upon hearing about the comet, Ariana’s character excitedly pronounces, “You guys discovered a comet? I have a tattoo of a shooting star on my back.” To which Leo’s character responds, “oh, that’s terrific.” Ariana later appears in the trailer, hitting her signature whistle note while performing at what appears to be a concert with Kid Cudi.

It was revealed that The Voice coach would have a more minor role than the other famous cast members. Ariana plays an air-head popstar named Riley Bina and stars alongside rapper Kid Cudi. The two co-wrote the movie’s title song and are nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media award. Not much is known about Cudi’s character; however, it appears he will play a similar music star role to Ariana’s.

It will be interesting to see Ariana in her big-screen debut. Fans will surely be racing to theaters and looping the film on Netflix to support their idol. The Voice coach may not have starred in a feature film before, but surely her acting skills from past gigs were of use in the production process. Ariana’s performance may also hint at how she may put her skills to work in the upcoming production of Wicked. Surely fans will support the singer regardless of what movie critics may or may not write.

Don’t Look Up premieres in select theaters on December 10th and will be released on Netflix on December 24th.
