Tom Holland Reacts To MCU Spider-Man 4, 5 & 6 Announcement

Tom Holland gives his first reaction to the news that he will star in a brand new Spider-Man trilogy. Debuting as the MCU’s wall-crawler in 2016 via Captain America: Civil War, the actor went on to play the role four more times. His first solo film was Jon Watts’ 2017 Spider-Man: Homecoming, followed closely by Watts’ follow-up, Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019. Holland’s fifth outing, Spider-Man: No Way Home, is coming to theaters next month and marks an end to Watts’ trilogy about the web-slinging hero.

Marvel Studios and Sony’s partnership has been quite successful thus far. Despite that, their agreement almost ended prematurely in 2019. The exact reason for the conflict has remained unknown, but if the studios weren’t able to find a middle ground, Holland’s Spider-Man would’ve been pulled out of the MCU after Spider-Man: Far From Home. That would’ve been a huge disappointment to fans, especially considering that the film ended on a significant cliffhanger. Luckily, both camps opted to renew their partnership. Based on the new deal, Marvel Studios was set to produce only two more Spider-Man films, with Holland previously calling Spider-Man: No Way Home“the end of a franchise” and teasing his potential exit. But now, that’s no longer the case, as Sony’s Amy Pascal revealed earlier in the week that plans for Holland’s Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6 were in the works.

When this news broke out, Holland was in the process of kicking off the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home. During his appearance in the French talk show, Quotidien, the Marvel actor was asked for his response on the matter of his MCU future in light of Pascal’s comments. Holland claims he’s in the dark regarding specific plans, but expresses his excitement about the possibility of continuing his journey as Spider-Man. Read his full answer below:

“Listen, all I’ll say is we have some very, very exciting things to be talking about. I don’t know what those things are or what they will transpire to mean. But it looks like it’s an incredibly bright future ahead, and as I’ve said before, Spider-Man will forever live in me.”

For years, Holland has been open about how much it means to him that he’s able to play an iconic character like Spider-Man. In fact, when Marvel Studios and Sony almost split, he was instrumental in inspiring both parties to work harder in finding a compromise. It’s worth noting, however, that there are supposedly no concrete plans yet regarding the new Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy. So perhaps, Holland wasn’t just playing coy when he said that he’s unaware of what comes next for him. However, chances are that he knew beforehand that continuing his stint as the wall-crawler wasn’t outside the realm of possibility, particularly since he so openly teased his potential exit from the franchise.

What makes this interesting is that, before Pascal’s announcement, Spider-Man: No Way Home was being positioned to be the end for Holland’s hero in the MCU. That checks out based on what’s known about Marvel Studios and Sony’s latest deal, so fans were convinced that there would never be a Spider-Man 4 in the MCU. That being said, it seems impractical to not continue with this partnership considering how successful it has been thus far, and a continuation of Holland’s Spider-Man journey after Spider-Man: No Way Home will certainly be a lucrative decision for both studios — not to mention a huge treat for fans.
