Top 10 TV Shows From The 2010s On Disney+ To Watch, According To IMDb

Since it launched at the tail end of 2019, Disney+ has quickly vaulted to the top as arguably the biggest streaming service around. It boasts a tremendous catalog of films and television shows. Some of the best series it features come from the 2010s and span a wide variety of genres.

There are classic style sitcoms, animated hits, shows in the Marvel universe, and a few from the Star Wars side of things. While finding the best series for this list, no reality shows or documentary-style programs were included. All entries, other than Disney+ originals, have at least 10,000 ratings on IMDb.

10 Ultimate Spider-Man (7.1)

When Disney acquired Marvel, most people just discussed the MCU and not much more. However, they also managed to get a hold of some really strong animated shows. One of them was Ultimate Spider-Man, which debuted in 2012 and ran for 104 episodes until 2017.

In the eyes of many, this was the best cartoon based on the wall-crawler since Spider-Man: The Animated Series in the ’90s. It saw Peter Parker in the early days of being a superhero as he teams with a group from S.H.I.E.L.D. at the behest of Nick Fury, which led to the inclusion of some fun Marvel characters.

9 Girl Meets World (7.2)

One of the most beloved shows of the ’90s was Boy Meets World. Nobody expected there to be a sequel spinoff series coming over a decade after it ended but that’s just what happened in 2014. That’s when Girl Meets World premiered and it ran for three seasons and 72 episodes.

The show picked up several years down the line as Cory and Topanga Matthews are now raising a daughter named Riley, who is the protagonist. Girls Meets World kept the tone from the original series and brought back many popular characters for a great nostalgia boost.

8 High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (7.4)

The title may be a mouthful to get past but once audiences checked out High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, they fell in love. It was one of the first shows to launch with Disney+. Set in the school where the High School Musical films took place, it follows students who put on a play based on the movies.

As expected, the musical numbers were a highlight. The cast was also well-received for their performances and for feeling like true teenagers. The series was renewed for a second season, recently ran a holiday special, and won a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming.

7 Once Upon A Time (7.7)

Originally airing on the ABC Network, Once Upon a Time seemed like it was tailor-made for Disney. The long-running fantasy show centered on a woman named Emma Swan (the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming), who breaks a curse that brings fairy tales back to life.

Spanning seven seasons and over 150 episodes, Once Upon a Time dove into all sorts of iconic tales. That included characters from Pixar films to Disney animated classics to King Arthur, and even recent hits like Frozen. It worked well due to the twists it put on these stories, like utilizing Rumplestiltskin as a villain and making him part of Beauty and the Beast.

6 Agent Carter (7.9)

Disney+ has some major Marvel Cinematic Universe shows coming in the next few years. However, several years back a few began that were part of the MCU, though not as inherently connected as one might like. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Netflix shows like Daredevil were the biggest of those.

Arguably the most unheralded was Agent Carter. Premiering in 2015, this series followed Peggy Carter in the aftermath of Captain America: The First Avenger, as she worked with Howard Stark and his butler Edwin Jarvis. It adds a fun bit of MCU lore and was met with positive acclaim but canceled after only two seasons.

5 Star vs. The Forces Of Evil (8.0)

This might be the most surprising entry on this list. Not many people seem to know about Star vs. The Forces of Evil but those who do can understand how delightful it is. It initially aired for four seasons and 77 episodes between 2015 and 2019.

The show centered around Star Butterfly, a heroine from another dimension sent to Earth to calm down her rambunctious demeanor. While there, she bonds with the family she lives with and battles villains while dealing with common things like high school.

4 Star Wars Rebels (8.0)

For the most part, the Star Wars animated series that gets all of the love is The Clone Wars, which ran from 2008 until 2020. That means that Star Wars Rebels is sometimes overlooked, which is a shame. Set five years before A New Hope, it followed a ragtag squadron as they go up against the Empire.

Like The Clone WarsStar Wars Rebels was praised for its animation style and even scored an Emmy nomination. It brought in popular characters like Ahsoka Tano and even Grand Admiral Thrawn. The series ran from 2014 until 2018, spanning four seasons and 76 episodes.

3 The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (8.3)

The best animated show that Disney picked up when they acquired Marvel was The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. While not as popular as the live-action Avengers films, this was still met with high praise. It often aired alongside the aforementioned Ultimate Spider-Man.

This series focused on a team consisting of Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Hulk, and Giant-Man. Eventually, heroes like Captain America and Black Panther joined. Airing 52 episodes over two seasons, the group of heroes worked together to go after 74 villains who broke out of prison.

2 The Mandalorian (8.8)

There was a mixed response to Disney’s sequel trilogy for Star Wars. The Mandalorian has had the opposite reaction, as it has been met with widespread acclaim. Launching with Disney+, the series has run for two seasons so far and it has only gotten better as things progressed.

The focal point of the show is the relationship between Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, and the “child” he protects. It scored an Emmy nomination for Oustanding Drama Series after season one and improved in a sophomore season that saw the inclusion of Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and even Luke Skywalker.

1 Gravity Falls (8.9)

In 2012, the world was introduced to one of the better animated series ever made. Gravity Falls centered on two siblings who are sent to spend the summer with their uncle in a small town filled with paranormal and supernatural creatures, which they investigate.

Gravity Falls scored a few Emmy wins and helped influence many shows that came after it. The series only ran for two seasons and 40 episodes but wasn’t canceled, as the creator instead just wrapped up the story at its natural conclusion.
