Transformers 7: Every Confirmed Beast Wars Character Explained

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will feature multiple Autobots, Maximals, and more; here’s every Transformer confirmed to appear in the Beast Wars movie. Paramount Pictures’ next Transformers movie will do what fans of the Hasbro toy line have long hoped. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is changing up the focus and mythology of the franchise by bringing the animal-themed Transformers to the big screen and mixing them in with some of the franchise’s more familiar Autobots.

When Michael Bay launched the Transformers series in 2007, the original lineup of robot aliens gave Bumblebee and Optimus Prime the two biggest recurring roles. Characters like Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Sideswipe popped up repeatedly as the Autobots helped protect Earth. By the end of Michael Bay’s movies, he also brought Dinobots like Grimlock and Strafe to the series. The Decepticons also had a major role to play throughout the franchise, with Megatron repeatedly fighting Optimus Prime’s squad. And even though Bumblebee served as a soft reboot of the timeline, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will give audiences a combination of known Transformers and some that have yet to be featured in this franchise.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Like all the other Transformers movies, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts still includes human characters too. Hamilton and In the Heights star Anthony Ramos plays an ex-military man named Noah, while Judas and the Black Messiah‘s Dominique Fishback plays Elena, a museum artifact researcher. These characters will find themselves involved with the Autobot’s latest attempt to keep Earth safe, which involves the introduction of Beast Wars. But which Transformers will they encounter? Here is every Beast Wars character for Transformers 7.

Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime is returning for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Optimus is the leader of the Autobots and has appeared in every Transformers movie to date. He was last seen in Bumblebee in a small role, which included the debut of his G1 design. After participating in the War on Cybertron, Optimus finally came to Earth by the end of the film. His appearance will continue his story several years later, as Transformers 7 is set in 1994. The movie will show how and why Optimus Prime forges a strong bond with humanity. He’s been described as the main Transformer character in the film. Peter Cullen is once again voicing Optimus Prime, and his G1 character design is slated to be featured too. Based on the continuity of the franchise, Optimus already has his giant Ion Blaster, but his swords and shield could come here as he takes on the Terrorcons.

Bumblebee

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will also bring back Bumblebee in a prominent role. The speaking-impaired Autobot keeps his streak alive of appearing in every live-action Transformers movie with this return. After the end of Bumblebee‘s story, he will be seen in his yellow and black striped Camaro look once again. However, Bumblebee gets a specialized look for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts due to him getting an off-road makeover. He should still have a version of his usual arm canon and battle mask. The character was last seen saying goodbye to Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) and has not yet been bought by Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) at this point in the timeline.

Arcee

Arcee will return in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. She is an Autobot field commander who is loyal to Optimus Prime. After a brief appearance in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Arcee was recently seen fighting in the War on Cybertron at the start of Bumblebee. Her return confirms that she safely made it to Earth and followed Optimus Prime’s orders about where they should go next. Her specialty in past stories includes hand-to-hand combat, sword fighting, and sharpshooting. Arcee is known for her taking on motorcycle forms, with a pink and white Ducati 916 set to be her look for Transformers 7.

Mirage

The Autobot known as Mirage will also appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. The character previously appeared in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and had a sizable role to play in stopping Sentinel and Megatron. His car form in that movie was a red Ferrari 458 Italia, but Mirage takes on a very different look in Transformers 7. He will have a silver and blue striped Porsche 911, which is closer to his G1 design, but he is not bound to a single shape either. Mirage is described as being anti-authority. The Transformers mythology has shown the character to be a bit of a Decepticon sympathizer and anti-war, with his powers including the ability to be invisible in some continuities.

Nightbird

One of the new characters set to appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is known as Nightbird. This name refers to several characters in the mythology of this series, but the specific version coming in the movie is a giant female ninja robot. She was created by humans in the original cartoon continuity before joining the Decepticons. Nightbird’s story is evolving for Transformers 7. She’ll switch sides from fighting alongside the Autobots to working with the Terrorcons, where she’ll be the right hand to the main villain. Nightbird will take on a black and purple Nissan GTR design for the Beast Wars movie.

Scourge

As for the main villain of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, that role belongs to Scourge. He is a Decepticon in the original continuity who was created by Unicron from dead Decepticons. The character works as a tracker for Galvatron and is incredibly powerful. Transformers 7 is changing Scourge’s story a bit it seems, as he is the leader of the Terrorcons here. The Terrorcons are rooted in the original series continuity as well, but Scourge is not associated with them. The character design is also different for his live-action debut, as a giant blue claw is on his left hand that has some component of yellow electricity.

Optimus Primal

The introduction of the Maximals in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts means the debut of Optimus Primal. Not to be confused with Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal is the leader of the Maximals who takes on the form of a silverback gorilla using advanced organic technology. Primal is a descendent of Prime and is possibly one of Cybertron’s greatest heroes. He led the charge for the Maximals in their pursuit of Megatron’s Predacons, which resulted in the event known as Beast Wars. Optimus Primal is mostly committed to meeting the code the Maximals live by unless something crazy is required to get the desired outcome.

Airazor

Another Maximal set to debut in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is Airazor. Originally introduced in the Beast Wars storyline, Airazor is used for recon and surveillance by the Maximals. She’s a confident and brave member of the team who takes on a bird animal form, which is natural given her expertise in flying. Airazor has a regal design for Transformers 7 and will work closely with Optimus Primal and the other Maximals throughout the movie.

Rhinox

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is also set to include Rhinox. The giant and strong Beast Wars character is another member of the Maximals who takes on the form of a rhino. Rhinox is described as the brains of the Maximal operation for Transformers 7. That lines up quite well with past incarnations of the character, which have made him the tech-savvy member of the team who is incredibly smart and loyal to the Maximal cause.
