Two And A Half Men: 5 Times Rose Was An Overrated Character (& 5 She Was Underrated)

Like any television sitcom, Two and a Half Men‘s multiple storylines were one of the things that made the show so interesting. One such ongoing storyline revolved around Rose (Melanie Lynskey), a recurring character in the series who continued to stalk Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) after a one-night stand with him.

With stalking having its obvious negative connotations, it did not come off as a surprise that the other characters thought she was crazy. However, she often got past it and got what she wanted because, given her knowledge of behavioral psychology, manipulating people was easy for her. While her capabilities and the extremes she could go to were taken seriously sometimes, there were other times when they were taken too lightly.

10 Overrated: The Christmas Reconnection

Following the incident where Rose sent her pet ferrets to attack Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher), he lost his trust for her completely. However, with Rose being good at manipulating people, she makes him believe that she has changed and plans to make amends.

She did this by building a bicycle and pretending to be Santa Claus for Louis (Edan Alexander). After this, Walden trusted her to be a genuinely nice person but from the cuckoo clock that she gifted, we know it is not true and she is incapable of change.

9 Underrated: Married A Mannequin

Ever since Rose had her one-night stand with Charlie, she continued to stalk him and she went to any extreme to be a part of his life. Her fake marriage with a mannequin resulted in just what she expected.

When she told Charlie about her marriage, he soon recalled how Rose has been a big part of his life and realized he had feelings for her. Everyone in Charlie’s house knew her capabilities so it is odd that they all underestimated the lengths she would go to get Charlie to do what she wants.

8 Overrated: Spending Time With Jake

Rose spent a lot of time in Charlie’s house and, knowing her, it was no surprise that there were only a few times that the people in the house knew she was there. One such occasion was when she agreed to help Jake Harper (Angus T. Jones) study for an upcoming exam.

While she did a great job with that and was quite friendly with Jake, her intentions were obviously beyond that. She would also babysit Jake for the same purpose. However, Jake often put her on a higher pedestal and assumed she was better than Charlie at times.

7 Underrated: Her Education

Rose had a reputation for being crazy throughout the series and that often clouded people’s opinions about her.

On that note, it was hard for the characters around her to believe that she was highly educated with a degree in behavioral psychology, and to top it all off she completed the studies in a very short period of time. While the other characters didn’t give much importance to it, it is probably how she could manipulate people so well.

6 Overrated: Business With Kate

After Walden tells Kate (Brooke D’Orsay) that he is actually not Sam like he told her he was, their relationship goes downhill. Following that, the only connection between the two turns out to be business for a while with Walden investing in Kate’s fashion brand.

Later, Rose invests in her, thus cutting down on the little relationship between Walden and Kate. She even prepared a schedule that will leave no room for the two to meet. However, Kate, who was unaware of it all, continues to have a high opinion of her.

5 Underrated: Giving Charlie Stalking Tips

When Charlie meets Evelyn’s (Holland Taylor) fiance Teddy’s daughter Courtney, he finds himself to be attracted to her, especially with Teddy asking him to stay away. Intrigued by it, Charlie ended up parking his car in front of Courtney’s house to stalk her.

At the same instance, Rose who was following Charlie joins him in his car and gives him tips. With the whole situation being messed up, Charlie was not as bothered by it as we would expect.

4 Overrated: Pretending To Help Walden

With Lyndsey McElroy (Courtney Thorne-Smith) visiting the beach house often to meet Alan Harper (Jon Cryer), her fiance Larry was lead to believe that the person she was having an affair with is Walden. Following that, Walden was in danger of being killed and Rose came to help him.

Despite Walden’s doubts, he goes with her but it turned out that the detective who was following Walden was in fact Rose herself. As someone who experienced Rose’s actions first-hand, he shouldn’t have trusted her so easily. That way he would have not ended up in that creepy motel.

3 Underrated: Agreement with Alan

It is no doubt that the people in Charlie’s house clearly know Rose’s potential and of course Alan was no exception. However, with Rose finding out his Ponzi scheme and Alan finding that her husband is a mannequin, Rose came up with an agreement that they do not reveal each other’s secrets.

While it might have been an easy solution at that point, Charlie definitely deserved to know the truth. Besides, knowing Rose’s ability to find information, Alan should have known it wouldn’t be easy to keep the scheme a secret from her.

2 Overrated: Her Love For Charlie

By now we all know the way Rose continued to stalk Charlie after their one night together and she spent a lot of time in his house. While everyone thought she was crazy, they also believed that she was a nice person and that her feelings for Charlie were indeed genuine. Berta even said it to Charlie.

Given the things she did to him, those said romantic feelings just feel non-existent. Therefore, the whole montage of Charlie recalling the good times with her made it all feel overrated.

1 Underrated: Relationship With Walden

Following Walden’s encounter with Rose at a bar, Walden began having feelings for her. Despite Alan warning him about her, Walden decided to date her.

If just Alan telling him about Rose was not enough, Walden should have suspected Rose when she was able to tell him the exact things Alan told about her despite not being in that room. Moreover, the whole thing was probably Rose’s attempt to know more about the guy who took Charlie’s place.
