Undermine: How to Defeat Noori, The Spectre of Darkness (Boss Guide)

UnderMineis an action-adventure roguelike game created and published by Thorium Entertainment. There are many dungeons to crawl, levels to achieve, and creepy environments to explore. Players play as a peasant who can mine materials, defeat monsters, and complete quests. There are also scary, devilish bosses that must be vanquished to become the ultimate hero. There are a total of six bosses throughout the game: Selt, Mortar, Noori, Ponzu, Seer, and Din. These bosses each have a unique set of attacks and weaknesses.

Noori, The Spectre of Darkness, is the third boss in UnderMine. A ball of purple and black death, Noori’s only distinguishing feature is his gruesome mouth. He is located on the fourth floor of The Halls of Din, and players will need to have upgraded their skills and abilities before this boss battle. Players should also thoroughly explore each location in the game before this point to collect relics and blessings. The more health and damage upgrades, the better. In the room where Noori is located, the peasant will have to drop down into a hole to reach him.

How to Defeat Noori in Undermine

In the room where Noori is located, there are four torches. For every torch that is extinguished, Noori will take 25% less damage. If they are all put out, Noori won’t take any damage. Ensure that Noori will be defeated quickly by setting the torches alight with a fury potion or salamander’s tail. Noori will also inadvertently light these torches as he attacks. Noori will deal no contact damage. It’s possible to not take damage in this battle, but due to Noori’s ranged attacks, this goal is very difficult to accomplish.

There are three attacks that Noori will utilize. First, a portal will open on the ground near the peasant and a hand will appear to try to hit them. Many of these portals will appear and pose a threat to the player. These hands can deal massive amounts of damage to the player. The gap between when the portal opens and the hands appearing will become larger and larger as time goes on. Players will need to pay attention to the timing to avoid taking damage. Noori’s hands also have a longer reach than some players might expect and can reach in either direction from the portals. Jump away from the hands to avoid taking damage.

In the second attack, Noori will teleport around the battlefield. He may land on a torch and extinguish it, but the purple orbs he emits to attack the peasant will relight torches. If the peasant runs away, the orbs will eventually disappear. If the peasant has Grimhilde’s Mirror, they will be able to reflect Noori’s orbs back at him. The player should wait until they disappear and take advantage of openings to attack. The only downside is that Noori will teleport again and reset the attack if the peasant waits for too long for a new opening.

In the third attack, Noori will extinguish all of the torches and teleport to the center of the room. It will shoot orbs that work similarly to the ones before, but they will curse the peasant if they are hit. These orbs will seek out the peasant specifically and follow them around the room. He will also shoot laser beams that can deal damage if they hit the peasant.

Noori isn’t too difficult of a boss to defeat with his attacks alone, but when his attacks overlap it can be very frustrating to time. The Chakram is a weapon that can help the peasant deal damage during this final attack phase, and it can free the peasant up to focus on dodging Noori’s attacks. It will keep spinning at the apex of the throw and damage any enemy that touches it. Throw it at Noori to dodge attacks and run around the room to relight the torches.

To dodge attacks, players should try to stay as far away from Noori as possible. Noori’s orbs will spread out and create bigger gaps as they get further away from him. This will create an opening for the peasant to get through to attack Noori. Don’t be afraid to touch Noori, but get away from him as he opens his mouth to start the third attack. The portals that the arms come out of in the first attack also won’t do any damage until the arms appear. Make sure to jump over the portals to avoid Noori’s arms.

When he is defeated, the player will be rewarded with Noori’s Fragment and the Othermine Conduit Schematic. Noori will also drop massive amounts of loot, like gold and thorium, and blueprints. Noori’s Fragment will be necessary to defeat the Final Boss.

After defeating Noori in the Early Access version, players can drop down into a portal to talk to a moth character named Death’s Head. Here, players will be informed that they have reached the end of UnderMine’s Early Access content, and they will be rewarded a Summoning Stone that will resurrect more bosses and make them more powerful, giving players a way to hone their skills and replay bosses before more content is available. In the updated version, players can take the ladder up to defeat more bosses.

Players will earn the “You Attack the Darkness” achievement if Noori is defeated, and the “Destroyer of Darkness” achievement if Noori is defeated without any upgrades.

UnderMine is available on Xbox One and PC.
