Up Spinoff Show Dug Days Brings Back Carl & Dug

Fan favorite and squirrel-lover Dug from Up will return alongside Carl for the first of three new Pixar TV series on Disney+, titled Dug Days. The 2009 movie, directed by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson, tells the tale of Carl, an elderly man who goes off on an adventure after developers threaten his home. He inadvertently takes a young Boy Scout named Russell along for the ride after the boy hides on his porch. Up is considered one of Pixar’s best movies, combining pathos, humor, and genuine thrills.

One of the best parts of the film is the character of Dug, a golden retriever who can communicate with humans thanks to a device his owner, an explorer named Muntz, created. Dug, the misfit of Muntz’s pack of attack dogs, joins forces with Carl and Russell, helping them on their adventure. His constant shouts of “Squirrel!” every time he thinks he sees one are hilarious, and he instantly became an iconic Pixar character. So much so that the DVD release of Up, included a short focused on him called Dug’s Special Mission, which is currently available on Disney+. Peterson voices the role in both the film and short, bringing humor to the hapless creature. And now, fans will get more Dug very soon.

During Disney’s Investor Day 2020, the company announced a new TV series featuring the character, called Dug Days, a clever pun on the idiom “dog days.” The announcement teased the show will focus on Dug’s adventures in suburbia, dealing with other puppies, fireworks, and—yes, even his favorite—squirrels. The announcement also confirmed Carl will feature in the series, which will debut on Disney+ in fall 2021. You can see the details in a Tweet from Disney below:
