Valheim: Best Things To Do After Beating the Final Boss

By the time Vikings reach the Plains biome in Valheim, they are likely to have much of the late-game gear they will need to survive the last few bosses in the game. Valheim was released at the beginning of February for Steam Early Access and has since exploded in popularity, reaching a staggering sales figure of three million in a matter of days, The Viking-themed survival game is rich with lore and game mechanics that ensure players never run out of something to do. The massive, open, procedurally-generated map offers plenty to explore, new resources to gather and use, and enemies to best in combat. But, as Valheim is not yet in its final form, there are only five bosses for players to summon and defeat.

Given the size and scope of Valheim, it should take players time to explore and master the various biomes and build up to defeating each boss. After players defeat Yagluth, the final boss, and encounter one of the first and only soft-walls in the game, there is still plenty to do around Valheim while waiting for the next content updates. Players can continue to gather resources, fight enemies, sail the seas, and explore, now with the powers of all five of the Forsaken to help them along. After defeating Yagluth and restoring a little bit of peace, here are some things players can do in Valheim as they wait for the next update.

Best Things To Do In Valheim Until The Next Update

As in other PvE survival games, even though players have slain the last Forsaken in Valheim, that does not mean all the dangers have passed. Players can continue doing all the activities they had been before while waiting for the next update. While the Plains biome is already a difficult zone for players with even the best gear, as more updates come out, it is likely the enemies and environmental dangers will become tougher to deal with. Players can spend their downtime after fighting the final boss working to build up their base, get better equipment, and improve their chances of survival.

Gather and Store Important Resources

Once players are no longer working on fighting bosses and discovering new areas, they can focus on gathering the best resources from each of the biomes in the game. Players should especially work on gathering resources that are rarer, like Obsidian, Silver, Black Metal Scraps, and Barley and Flax. For some items, players will need to defeat monsters, especially Fulings, which can be a difficult endeavor. This should take time, allowing players to improve their technique when fighting these difficult and often frustrating enemies.

Players can build multiple chests and even stack chests in a section of their base to hold all the various materials for later use and avoid overloading their inventory.

Build all Top-Tier Gear

While not required, it is recommended for players to have Padded Armor and Black Metal weapons when taking on the final boss. If players have not yet crafted the full Padded Armor or Wolf Armor sets, or if they have yet to craft every Black Metal Weapon available, they should do so in the down time after defeating Yagluth. This way, when new and more difficult challenges arise, they will be prepared.

Players should also make sure to upgrade both their crafting stations and their gear to the highest level possible for maximum durability, protection, and effectiveness.

Improve Base and Defenses

Base building is essential in survival games, and players can focus on creating a singular hub out of which their Viking will operate into the next stages of Valheim‘s development. Players should set up a defensible base with multiple levels while waiting for the next update. They can include a farm, where they should plant their most important foods, all the available crafting stations, and even enclosures for tamed boars, wolves, and lox. They should also include methods of defense, like walls, siege platforms, or even a ditch or moat. Players can look online for inspiration, as many players in the community have shared their incredible builds.

Players may also consider clearing pathways and building a road system in each biome to make them easier to travel, and setting up their smaller bases in each biome to make travel even easier as new content is added to the game. Players can also get creative with their longships and build mightier vessels to explore the oceans.

Create a Dedicated Server to Play Cooperatively with Friends

Players can set up a dedicated server to play with friends and make progress in a new game, with or without a server host online. This way, friends in various parts of the world can log in and share resources and responsibilities. Players will need to download the Steam Console Client and use it to set up the server.

Replay Boss Fights

Players who get tired of working on survival can give themselves another challenge by collecting more sacrificial items and summoning the bosses again to fight. Players may have more fun trying to see how long it takes them to defeat Eikthyr again with the best items in the game at their disposal, or trying a new tactic to evade Yagluth’s fire breath and slam attacks. There is not currently a limit to how often players can summon the Forsaken and defeat them, so players looking to improve their combat skills or try new techniques may want to take advantage of this option.
