Valheim Players Can Tame Trolls & Bosses Thanks To A Weird, New Mod

While some creatures in Valheim such as wolves and boars can be tamed and bred, one talented modder has taken the mechanic even further. A brand new mod lets players tame Trolls and Bosses with hilarious results. While Valheim’s wolves can be cute, nightmarish ancient Nordic creatures filled with unparalleled power are even cuter when they’re on the player’s side.

Valheim allows players a level of freedom and creativity beyond the usual survival game genre, with an expansive building mechanic and tools to terraform the game’s environment however the player wants. Plenty of players have chosen to ignore the game’s storyline, and instead found creative ways to build an enormous fortress and recreate monuments from other games in Valheim, including a giant United States Battleship.

The mod, which was showcased on NexusMods, isn’t just for the different bosses and trolls. It allows players to tame just about any creature included in the game, except for deer and fish. NPCs, like the Merchant, also cannot be tamed. The bosses in the game can technically be tamed, but are quite buggy with the mod in its current state. Even still, having such a powerful creature such as Moder and Elkthyr on a player’s side is pretty cool.

Creatures can be lured into a pen-like structure and force-fed food until an unbreakable bond is created between them and the player. This works well for all of the creatures, except for ones on the larger side such as Trolls, who have trouble fitting into some of the smaller pens, so get creative in luring this enemy type into bigger traps before trying to cram food into their mouths safely. Most enemy types in the game are easy enough to kite or lead into a trap or pit, especially if other players are laying in wait to spring the trap. Tamed creatures can be breed too, fulfilling any player’s desire to have an army of followers regardless of type, leaving nothing in their wake.

If the modder continues to work on the mod, such as adding in riding and fixing some of the issues with the boss models, this could be one of the must-have mods for Valheim. Its mods such as these add more character, and certainly more memorable moments, that can really enhance a game’s overall experience.

Valheim is available on PC.
