HBO’s Veep, set to launch its final season this month, is reuniting AMC’s Better Call Saul alumni, as it adds Rhea Seehorn and Michael McKean to the cast. The Emmy-winning political comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus has booked a slew of well-known guest stars over its duration, and the final season will continue that pattern.
First debuting on HBO in 2012, Veep follows Selina Meyer (Dreyfus) on her political journey in – and out of – office holding the title of the vice president then ascending to the presidency. After six seasons and six consecutive Emmy wins for Dreyfus, HBO announced that season 7 of Veep will be its last. Fans can expect a proper send off to the smash hit with Selina thrust into the campaign world to regain the title of commander in chief. Those familiar with Better Call Saul will recognize Seehorn and McKean, as their TV credits cross paths again in the final episodes of Veep. Seehorn has played Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul since 2015, and is also set to join the cast of the highly anticipated The Twilight Zone. Mckean didn’t have as long of a run on Better Call Saul playing Chuck McGill, and made his exit as a series regular after season 3. However, McKean’s career in the TV world has spanned decades, with roles in Laverne and Shirley, Friends and The X-Files.

According to EW, Seehorn will play Michelle, the chief of staff of a rival candidate. The executive producer of Veep, David Mandel, has noted that Seehorn’s character is a fervent loyalist with a high-strung temperament. Seehorn’s character is set to appear in several episodes. The other Better Call Saul vet, McKean, will play the governor of Iowa. Although he’s only slated for one episode, McKean’s role is pivotal, as the governor of Iowa holds weight in the beginning stages of a presidential election. Mandel has said of McKean’s role: “People are coming in and wanting this endorsement for the presidency and he’s trying to figure out what that can get him.” – a description with selfish undertones that mirrors Chuck McGill.
The appearances of Seehorn and McKean are not the only times the audience will recognize the faces of Veep season 7’s guest stars. Other well-known actors that’l grace the stage of the campaign include Andy Daly and Keegan-Michael Key. These fresh – yet familiar – faces will be added to the impressive Veep guest list with many predecessors including, Patton Oswalt, John Slattery, Randall Park, and Hugh Laurie.
The final season of Veep is another addition to the list of shows leaving HBO this year, which includes Games of Thrones and Big Little Lies. As the acclaimed show Veep bids farewell, it’s only appropriate to bring on guest stars such as Seehorn and McKean who are vetted in the television world, and more than capable of fitting into the political satire. Seehorn and McKean are known to leave their mark on the shows they appear on, and will no doubt do the same for Veep.
