Venom 2 is returning to theaters after Sony pushed Morbius back to April. It’s been a great couple of months for the Spider-Man movie universe thanks to Disney and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Sony’s Venom of course existed in an entirely separate universe from the MCU’s Spider-Man when the first Venom movie was released back in 2018 and went on to gross $856 million worldwide. That huge box office take in fact likely played a big role in Marvel Studios electing to later embrace Sony’s Venom by consenting to both Venom 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring universe-knitting post-credits scenes. But of course Sony has more going on than just Venom, as it’s also set to release the Jared Leto-led Morbius, providing a solo vehicle for yet another Spider-Man villain. Unfortunately the original planned January release of Morbius was recently put on hold until April.
But fans who can’t get enough of the Spider-Man Universe on the big screen are in luck as Venom is coming back to fill the Morbius-sized hole in the Sony release schedule. As revealed by @VenomMovie, the Tom Hardy-led Let There Be Carnage is returning to select theaters to wreak more havoc on January 14. See the video touting the release in the space below:

Venom: Let There Be Carnage of course already racked up a healthy box office return in its initial release with a worldwide gross of $501 million worldwide. Now it gets a chance to pad those numbers, though it remains to be seen how much extra money the movie will actually add to its total given that it’s been available at home for weeks now. And since No Way Home is still in theaters, fans can now head out to the multiplex for a Spider-Man Universe double-bill.
Given the weak box office for most new releases since No Way Home, there’s a fair chance that Venom 2 could actually scare up a decent-sized audience as it returns to theaters on a select basis. Of course the movie will have at least a little competition as the Scream reboot also hits theaters on January 14. Considering that Let There Be Carnage is already a hit, Sony certainly has nothing to lose by putting the movie out again and trying to capitalize on its connection to the massively-successful No Way Home. It will be fascinating to see how many Spider-Man fans decide to give Venom 2 one more look on the big screen as they wait for Morbius to finally arrive.
