Walking Dead Cast Will Voice Guardians of the Globe On Amazon’s Invincible Show

Six former and current cast members of The Walking Dead will join Amazon’s animated Invincible TV show to voice the Guardians of the Globe. Following the success of AMC’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series, Amazon announced their plans in 2018 to adapt Kirkman’s popular Invincible comics. The superhero series began in 2003 and released 144 issues before ending in 2018.

Invincible follows a young boy named Mark who discovers his father is the alien superhero Omni-Man and learns he is following in his footsteps with superpowers of his own. Amazon has already announced the addition of The Walking Dead stars Steven Yeun and Khary Payton to the cast. Yeun will voice Mark while Payton will voice Black Samson, a member of the Guardians of the Globe. In Invincible, the Guardians of the Globe is a private superhero organization led by War Woman and Darkwing. The team is considered the Justice League of the Invincible universe. Now more of Yeun and Payton’s former costars are being recruited to the cast.

During his Comic-Con@Home panel, Kirkman announced that six current and former Walking Dead cast members will join the cast of Invincible to voice the Guardians of the Globe. Kirkman revealed that Lauren Cohan will star as War Woman, Chad Coleman as Martian Man, Michael Cudlitz as Red Rush, Lennie James as Darkwing, Ross Marquand as The Immortal and Aquarius, while Sonequa Martin-Green will voice Green Ghost. Cohan stars as Maggie on Walking Dead alongside Marquand as Aaron. Coleman and Martin-Green previously starred as brother and sister, Tyreese and Sasha, while Cudlitz played fan-favorite Abraham. James has played Morgan since season 1, but later moved to spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead.

Co-created by Kirkman and Walker, the series will feature an ensemble cast including the previously announced J.K Simmons as Omni-Man, Zachary Quinto as Robot, Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien, Sandra Oh as Mark’s ex-girlfriend Amber Bennett, Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum, Chris Diamantopolous as villain Doc Seismic, Walton Goggins as head of Global Defense Agency Cecil Steadman, Andrew Rannells as Mark’s best friend William Clockwell, Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Splode and Kevin Michael Richardson as the Mauler Twins, among others.

The Walking Dead cast are a promising choice for the powerful Guardians since their characters on the AMC show were also strong and dependable. Cohan as War Woman should be particularly good casting because she’s showed off her leader qualities playing Maggie. But much like The Walking Dead, the Invincible comics are known to get pretty graphic, killing off characters in true Kirkman fashion. Invincible fans will know not to get too comfortable with having all the Walking Dead cast on the show, considering the Guardians are betrayed and brutally killed by Omni-Man in the comics, meaning fans will have to see Abraham (Cudlitz), Sasha (Martin-Green) and Tyreese (Coleman) die all over again.

The series should be fun for fans to see past and present Walking Dead cast members reuniting, even if it doesn’t last very long. It will be especially satisfying to see Cohan reunite with her former Walking Dead on-screen husband, Yeun. Fans haven’t seen the beloved “Glenn and Maggie” together since Glenn’s fateful ending in season 7. With an already impressive cast list, this adaptation of Invincible will hopefully satisfy fans of the comic. Though there hasn’t been an official release date announced for the series premiere, the series is set to arrive on Amazon later this year.
