Watch Dogs: Legion NPCs Voiced By Celebrities (& Who They Are)

Introducing actors and celebrities into big-budget games is a great way to add to any production. Watch Dogs: Legion may not have much room to include specific celebrity appearances, given that most of the NPCs are randomly generated, but the cast of main characters is nonetheless performed by notable actors from different mediums. Some are instantly recognizable, making players snap their fingers while trying to remember the actor’s entire filmography, while others are handled with such nuance it’s difficult to believe who the face is behind the voice.

Given that the crew of DedSec operatives are all randomly generated, it was perhaps important for Ubisoft to include some experienced star-power to help drive the narrative. Having every character walking the streets of London as a playable character is an impressive feat, but players need specific characters to drive the emotions of the game. Bagley, for example, is DedSec’s hyper-intelligent AI who also happens to be incredibly cheeky and pithy as he speaks to the player. Different personality types were programmed with unique lines for interacting with other characters, but they often come across as flat when compared to the game’s preset characters.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Shortly before Watch Dogs: Legion was released, marketing began for the appearance of British rapper Stormzy to appear in the game. Celebrities and notable actors have appeared in video games before, but rarely have they made an appearance as themselves. With the musician taking the media spotlight with his in-game performance, it was easy to overlook some of the other actors who round out the cast and bring this near-future London to life. Coming from film, television, and theater, most of these actors are also from the UK, bringing an extra layer of authenticity to their work. While Western audiences may only recognize one or two actors by name, their voice and stage work are sure to jog a few memories.

Watch Dogs: Legion – Warren Brown As MI5 Agent Dalton Wolfe

Dalton Wolfe was a dashing, James Bond-like special agent of DedSec who walked players through the tutorial section of the game. While his time in Watch Dogs: Legion was short-lived, it nevertheless reflected on his extensive acting career. No stranger to portraying lawmen, Brown has had many appearances in UK crime shows; Strike Back, X-Company, and Luther are among his acting credits dating back to 1995. Fans of British crime dramas have no doubt heard his voice at least once, and he can be more recently seen on the UK drama, The Responder.

Olivia Morgan As Watch Dog’s Leader of DedSec London, Sabine Brandt

The one remaining member of DedSec after the events of the bombing is Sabine. Watch Dogs: Legion begins with Sabine looking for recruits to rebuild DedSec and find out the truth behind Zero Day. Sabine is portrayed by Olivia Morgan, who previously worked with Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as Mary Read.

Morgan is most notable for her roles in dark psychological thrillers like Murmur, Dartmoor Killing, and Calibre. Her experience with the dark and the glib in those films certainly helped in her performance as Sabine. Morgan is also notable for appearing in the long-running BBC show Doctors, along with many others on this list.

Lee Ross as Nigel Cass, Head of Albion, In Watch Dogs: Legion

Nigel Cass represents a dangerous villain not only in his ruthless tactics, but because he is a man who strongly believes he is doing good as the head of Albion in Watch Dogs: Legion. Lee Ross lends his voice to this imposing character, but his history in acting covers a large range of recognizable roles. Appearing on TV shows in the UK like Westbeach, Playing the Field, and the animated classic Watership Down, Ross is also known for his recurring role as Owen on Eastenders. North American audiences may also recognize him for his appearance on Doctor Who, although he is also notable for portraying Grey the ape in Dawn of The Planet of the Apes.

Kristen Kreuk As Former Inspector Kaitlin Lau In Watch Dogs: Legion

Former inspector Kaitlin Lau in Watch Dogs: Legion is portrayed by Canadian actress Kristen Kreuk. Lau seeks to take down Mary Kelley and her crime syndicate, a task she can’t complete without the help of DedSec. Kreuk rose to fame from her role as Lana Lang on the Superman origin’s TV show Smallville. She also had a supporting role in the teen summer film Euro Trip as Fiona, the subject of the popular song “Scotty Doesn’t Know.” This is not Kreuk’s first video game-related role, however, as she took the title role in 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Pascal Langdale As Watch Dogs: Legions’ AI, Bagley

While some took issue with Watch Dogs: Legion’s lack of a firm main character, Bagley filled the role of comic relief, guide, and informant in an entertaining and compelling way. The complex and curious AI was brought to life by Pascal Langdale, someone who is no stranger to voice work at Ubisoft. With credits including The Division, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla under his belt. His acting credits include various TV appearances going back to 1999; however, gaming fans will most likely remember him for his role of Ethan Mars in the cult classic Heavy Rain.

Watch Dogs: Legion – Pooky Quesnel as “Bloody” Mary Kelley

If Nigel Cass is to be feared for his devotion to his cause, Mary Kelley (or Bloody Mary) should be reviled for her devotion to cruelty. Barbaric and ruthless, Mary Kelley controls the Kelley gang with an iron fist. A character of such presence demands an actress of equal command, and Pooky Quesnel is perfectly suited for the role. Appearing in numerous crime, period, and medical dramas over the years, Quesnel has the skills necessary to bring someone as complex and disturbing as Mary Kelley to life.

With a notable appearance in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as Mrs. Phillips, gamers may be surprised to learn the actress has appeared as Moaning Myrtle in the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She also lends her voice to Bloodborne as Arianna, and she’s Yuria of Londor in Dark Souls III.

Olivia Grant As Watch Dogs: Legions’ Tech Genius, Skye Larson

Despite being an in-game celebrity for her advancements in technology, Skye Larson’s obsession with perfection spun wildly out of control, making for a calculated and imposing enemy for DedSec. Olivia Grant takes on the character, delivering a performance that is nuanced and cold to reflect what Skye values most: technology. Some of Grant’s most well-known acting credits come from 2007’s Stardust and the leading role of Genesis, the first part of a sci-fi trilogy planned by the BBC. Grant also appears in every episode of the historical drama series Indian Summers.

Rosemary Dunsmore As Sinead Larson, Skye’s Tragic Pawn In Watch Dogs: Legion

Another short but potent role in Watch Dogs: Legion, Sinead Larson is the mother of Skye Larson. Falling ill with an incurable sickness, she wishes to die with dignity. Skye, however, is obsessed with learning how to upload her mother’s mind into a computer to keep her alive. She only has a few lines of dialogue in the game, but each one is delivered with fear, sorrow, and regret. The character is performed by Rosemary Dunsmore, whose extensive acting credits date back to 1980, with notable appearances on Anne of Avonlea, The Twilight Zone, MacGuyer, and over a dozen episodes of Orphan Black. Sinead is her only listed video game role, but her experience as a dramatic actress can be felt in every word.

Stormzy As Himself In Watch Dogs: Legion

The most obvious appearance of a celebrity in Watch Dogs: Legion comes from someone who portrays themselves. British rapper Stormzy appears in the game and requires the help of DedSec to broadcast his latest track “Rainfall” which has an entire music video shot in the Watch Dogs engine. Given the xenophobic and totalitarian nature of the game’s narrative, his appearance as a defiant leader against ctOS and Albion through the power of music to unite the resistance is a classic take on the adage “music as a weapon.”

Watch Dogs: Legion – Gregg Lowe As The Enigmatic Voice of Zero Day

Zero Day is the core antagonist of Watch Dogs: Legion, utilizing incredibly advanced technology to wage war against DedSec. Responsible for the bombing which allowed Albion to step into power and begin the military takeover of the city, it’s easy to think of them as a shadowy organization and overlook the modulated voice they use when communicating with the people. Gregg Lowe is the voice of Zero Day, and if that voice sounds familiar there is good reason for it. Lowe has also appeared in both Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Horizon Zero Dawn. Lowe is even set to take a key role as Vergil in the announced Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat. He appears in two episodes of Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy, and as Ink in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
