Where to Find THAT Rockstar Easter Egg in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 players can enjoy a blast from the past as the game once again includes Rockstar Games’ long-running Bigfoot Easter egg. The latest game in the Red Dead Redemption franchise has taken open-world gaming to the next level, meaning the impressive story campaign is only the start of what can be found in the dusty plains of the Old West.

The legacy of Bigfoot/Sasquatch has become something of a running joke in the world of Rockstar Games. Weaving an unusual thread through their games, the hairy giant has become a staple within the video game company since 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, later going on to appear in Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Grand Theft Auto V. And, though Bigfoot is undoubtedly more difficult to see in person in the prequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, the creature is – at the very least – much friendlier than usual.

For any gamers willing to step off the beaten track and find the large-shoed Sasquatch, YouTube channel Video Game Sophistry has mapped out a fairly simple path to Bigfoot. Before tracking the hulking hairball, players need to have studied at least 30 animals before they’ll be granted the opportunity to find him. Then, after following a peculiar flock of birds to the very north of the map, players will finally discover a cave blocked off by a large boulder near the Calumet Ravine. There, players will hear the unmistakable voice of a distant stranger (in this case, Bigfoot himself) call out and say, “Hello there, friend. How are you?”

Now, as exciting as it might be to find Bigfoot, his backstory story is a depressing one, telling Arthur that he doesn’t have any friends on account of his unusual size. This ultimately prompts Bigfoot to ask Arthur if he will consider being his friend, though the only opportunity to strike up a longer conversation requires the player to return three in-game days later. During the second conversation, players learn that Arthur had been looking for a wife, but gave up hope on account of the cruel women he’s come across. It’s unclear whether or not this is the end of the Bigfoot story in Red Dead Redemption 2 or if his appearance somehow ties into Red Dead Redemption.

The inclusion of Bigfoot in Red Dead Redemption 2 cements the ties between Rockstar’s popular catalog of games. While gamers shouldn’t expect to see characters like Grand Theft Auto V’s Trevor Philips pop up in Red Dead Redemption 2, that’s not to say that one of his ruthless ancestors isn’t out there somewhere. Rockstar promised a kind of open world that fans have never experienced before, and – with its impressive array of Easter eggs that include everything from UFO sightings to The Jungle Book’s Kaa – Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly lives up to the hype.
