Who Wheel Of Time Season 2’s New Secret Characters Could Be

The additions of Syal and O’Keeffe were revealed alongside the news that Amazon’s Wheel of Time adaptation has found its Elayne Trakand. The daughter-heir of Andor will be brought to life by Ceara Coveney. Elayne was arguably the biggest Wheel of Time character missing from the cast, but there are still more key players waiting to be introduced. Season 1 looks set to bring in the core members of Rand’s group, several of the Aes Sedai, and quite a few of the supporting characters from the first book, The Eye of the World, and beyond. At this point, well over 30 Wheel of Time characters have been officially cast. Season 2 is sure to delve a bit deeper into their journey and pull in even more characters from the first few novels.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

It’s worth speculating about the identities of the two mystery characters played by O’Keeffe and Syal. Wheel of Time season 2 introducing Elayne (a character who meets Rand toward the end of The Eye of the World) provides an indication of when in the timeline season 2 may take place. It could be that season 2 will cover events that happened in the second half of The Eye of the World and perhaps the sequel as well, which was The Great Hunt. That would make sense, considering that this period introduced two characters who feel like good fits for the two actresses. O’Keeffe could be playing Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan of the Red Ajah, while Syal may be attached to the role of Verin Mathwin of the Brown Ajah.

In the source materials, Elaida is a troublesome yet incredibly powerful Aes Sedai. She represents the Red Ajah, who hate men and are devoted to ridding men who can channel off their link to the True Source. Rand author encountered her for the first time when he accidentally landed within the palace walls at Camelyn and met Elayne. Elaida immediately took a disliking to Rand, and emerged as an enemy of him. If the Wheel of Time show tells this story accurately, Rand should earn Elaida’s enmity on the same day that he trips his way into Elayne’s life. As an associate of the criminal Peaky Blinders gang in the show, Natasha O’Keeffe would be ideally suited to the occasionally unruly Elaida. To make the casting more compelling, she also bears a striking physical resemblance to the character from the books.

Syal’s character, on the other hand, could turn out to be a potential ally, especially if she’s really playing Verin. Interestingly, Verin has the look of a woman in her 50s, which is unlike most women who have the One Power, but that’s not the only reason why there’s a good chance Syal is playing Verin in Wheel of Time season 2. In Jordan’s novels, Verin is often caught daydreaming and seems to get lost in thought, even when serious discussions are taking place. However, it was eventually revealed that this behavior is mostly a ruse so that she’ll be underestimated by the people around her. So looking at what’s known about Verin, her character could benefit from being playing by an actress with excellent comedic chops. Based on her roles in projects like Goodness Gracious Me, Syal certainly brings that to the table.
