Xbox Series X Mini Fridge Getting Review Bombed After Selling Out

The new Xbox Series X Mini Fridge sold out within minutes of it going up for pre-order at Target in the United States. Despite not even being released yet, the Xbox Series X Mini Fridge was also review bombed as soon as the page went live. While the mini-fridge isn’t a console, scalpers still appear to have gotten their hands on it – much like how scalpers recently amassed limited-edition Pokémon Oreos and sold them for $25,000 on eBay.

The Xbox Series X Mini Fridge has – literally – been a meme for quite some time now. When the Series X console was first revealed, it caught some flack for its uniquely boxy look. As a result, many took to the Internet to meme the Series X by equating its appearance with a fridge, and Microsoft joined in on the joke by making a few full-scale Xbox Series X Mini Fridges for celebrities like Snoop Dogg. But now, the company is rolling out mini-fridges to the public.

That said, those who want to get their hands on an Xbox Series X Mini Fridge may have a hard time. The console-inspired mini-fridge sold out rather quickly. Scalpers have been a huge issue for Xbox since the launch of the Series X and it seems the problem will continue with this new mini-fridge. If that wasn’t enough, the fridge was review bombed on Target’s website (via GameSpot). Despite not being officially released, 78% of the 513 ratings give it one star. As a result, Target’s page notes that it has 1.8/5 stars.

It’s not particularly clear why anyone would review bomb a mini-fridge, but it may be due to needless console warring. The fridge is designed to look like a really large Xbox Series X and glows green on the inside; but other than that, there isn’t anything particularly special about its function or design. Given the fridge also isn’t officially available yet, there’s no reason for any reviews to be available for the appliance.

The publicly released model likely won’t be too dissimilar to the Xbox Series X fridge that was given away to a fan last year, but in a smaller form. Microsoft will restock the fridge in 2022; it’s not a limited-edition item. The fridge is only available at Target in the U.S. at the moment, so it is a bit of a mad dash to secure one in the cart. It’s unclear how long Microsoft will continue to manufacture and distribute the mini-fridge at this time.
